I've had an Intellivision in one form or another since 1981. My Atari 2600 friends would forsake their units and spend hours at my house playing baseball, Space Armada, triple action, etc. I'm very glad to find that these units are still available on eBay, and usually at a fair price. You will need a traditional channel 3/4 coax port on your TV--doesn't work well on today's sets without an adaptor.

As a kid I had and still have my Atari 2600. I used to mock intellivision back then. All these years later I decided why not pick one up and see what all the fuss was way back when. Well I am not very impressed, so far. It's a decent game machine. But the 2600 will always be better in my book.

What can be said about the Intellivision from Mattel? Plenty! The console is the first 16-bit console. But the graphics are of an 8-bit nature. However, the technology inside the system places it above the Atari 2600 easily. The controllers are permanently attached to the console for easy storage. This has the advantage of the controllers not getting misplaced. But it has a disadvantage should a controller fail as they can not be easily replaced. Games? Over 120 games were released for the system and there have been a few new titles made by home brewers. Title highlights for this system are Lock N Chase, Astrosmash, Space Armada, Star Strike, and a few by Imagic and Activision. And this is the first console to receive games based on the 80s movie TRON of which there are three: Deadly Discs, Maze-A-Tron, and Solar Sailor (with voice). The system has an impressive speech synthesis with the Intellivoice add-on module compared to other consoles of the era. And the speech takes place without interrupting game action. Other add-ons include the ability to play Atari 2600 games and one that turns the Intellivision into a computer system. Other add-ons are available for the console that can't be mentioned here. The system is now over 30 years old as of the time of this writing and is a solid system. Out of the huge number of games I have tried on the system, I have not found one that I didn't like. Yes, it has advantages and disadvantages but what system doesn't? Mattel Intellivision...an American-made console with lots of games that should not be overlooked. The only reason why I don't give the system all 5 stars for Ease of Use is due to some games overusing the keypad buttons and the size of the main fire buttons.Read full review
I was very happy with the console and the selection of games that came with it. I owned one of these as a kid and it was great to go back and play these games on the Intellivision console. The game play is very simple, as expected for the technology of the time, and the system and games all still work great for being over 30 years old. I have seen just the console sell for twice as much as I paid without any games at all, so to get the console complete with a handful of classic cartridges just made this an even sweeter deal. The paddles are worn, but still very usable, many of the games came with the original overlays and boxes. The good things outweigh the bad things overall, the only real negative thing about my experience with using the console is sometimes the horizontal view will become askew, but this may have just been my connection to the television set. I used the coax adapter, but maybe an original RC type adapter switch would be better.Read full review
This game takes me back to my younger years. My children were under 12 years old. My kids and I would play this game for hours. Our favorite game was and still is Dungons and Dragons. Now I need to find my old voice module so I can play our other favorite game BOMB SQUAD. Thanks for the travel back in time.
