The series develops over five seasons. We have watched the first four seasons and have the fifth season on order. It is very well acted and the characters are complex individuals. I enjoyed the way the story begins in America near the end of the American Revolution and then transitions to England. There are unexpected twists and turns in many subplots throughout the story. The fourth season was purchased on EBay as a pre-owned DVD set, and one of the episodes had three short "skips" (probably due to careless use and a scratch on the disc by the original owner). That's the only reason I gave a "4" rating instead of a 5.

Spectacular storyline, scenery, acting, romance, action, heroism, and more all without a single swear word! Imagine that! This is the BEST thing ever to watch, everything about it is sensational! Historical fiction puts you there on Cornish soil in early 18th century. Not a boring moment, you will laugh and cry. And have to watch every season more than once. Extraordinary! Wonderful! Superbly done from dialogue, costumes, sets, the horses, to everything. Fabulous.

I appreciate the Poldark series on PBS - with all that I had to do I did not get to see all the season! Also I needed to see most of the series again for its fine acting and the scenery of the coastline. My family is from the area or at least in the middle of the country. It is so much a good study of everyday living at the time (very historical). Alice Spurgeon Reid

I love Aiden Turner but not Ross Poldark. Ross is a selfish, inconsiderate clod who values his own opinion above all others. Stubborn doesn't begin to describe him. The other characters are infinitely more endearing. I adore Demelza and Caroline, George's descent into insanity was fascinating, Varity Poldark is a character worth rooting for, Francis "found" himself, Aunt Agatha and George had me howling. Dwight Ennis changed little thru most of the series. He was decent and kind, with a few missteps. I appreciated that this production didn't clean up the peasants, they look like what they would have in the late 1800s - dirty, disheveled and only possessing a few garments. The cinematography was beautiful, but it irked my last nerve that Ross and Demelza spent an inordinate amount of time standing on a cliff, watching the sea like it was HBO. I saw this pic on FB and called it Fluffy Mittens Poldark. Read full review

This series is heartwarming, sad, drama that you can feel. You'll love the characters and dislike a few. Tears will be shed. You will impatiently wait for the next season.
