I bought this book because several friends recommended it and I figured, for $.98 what have I to lose? This is less about 'how to' and more about why and when. If people read this book, they'd save thousands on divorce, useless things, arguments, attorneys and the like. Dr. Gray's insights, like in Men are from Mars..., make so much sense it's almost scary. He isn't asking women to be subservient or asking men to 'soften up'. Rather, the speaks first to the 5 stages of dating which make SO much sense! He explains the intricasies, how we mis-read the opposite sex, what to do if (like me) you are Venus but born on Mars (LOL) and moving from stage to stage. He speaks to those situations where one of you is thinking marriage (stage 5) while the other is still in 'getting to know you'-ville or stage 1. I hate the 'dating game' per say but again, there are explanations that not only will turn on the light bulb but will move the wheels. You will see things you have never seen before, you will see things you've seen before but in a new, different, better light and it gets better. He speaks to women liking and respecting themselves and thusly men respecting women more because of it. I like the section on communication and what we say and what the other sex hears. Before I read this book, if I didn't like something about the dinner, the movie or activity and he asked me I would be tactful but honest. Now, I'll say nothing or find something I liked (the restaurant was lovely, for example) as what you do on the date, especially when the guy has taken the time to plan the thing, is a direct reflection on him. There are many interesting insights, ideas and explanations some my girlfriends have told me before and some that opened my eyes. I recommend it!Read full review
Read this book w/my 14-yr-old daughter & we were both thrilled with the specific information about the purpose of dating, how to choose who to date, how to decide if you want to continue, and how to avoid common pitfalls of going too far too fast or driving each other nuts unintentionally. I also liked it because much of the advice has to do with using dating to find a marriage partner, so it allows teen dating to remain more casual than many teens seem to think it is. I would love to sponsor a teen group that read the book together. I will most likely buy more copies of this book so each of my kids can have their own.
I have got it from the library and like it so much that I order me a copy. It's useful and funny to read.
