Little Golden Books were always a great way for children to learn about things, and this one is no exception. It is small, with a cardboard cover, and the pages are glued not directly into the spine, which means it will last longer than other children's books! This book describes kittens (Hush and Brush) who love colors, and are trying to mix them to make the color green. They mix several colors together, and come out with many other options. The way it is written makes it compelling for children to understand how colors can be mixed to make other colors, and what those colors represent (e.g. purple, like prunes or shadows on late afternoons). This was my favorite book as a child, and at age 37, I'm not ashamed to say I ordered it to reminisce! I even turned out to be an artist.

Beautiful words by Margaret Wise Brown, and wonderful illustrations. Serious quibble, with a trend in latter day editions of some Little Golden Books, of hacking off some of the pages. A great poetic climax has been eliminated from this version. Boo! Same goes for The Big Brown Bear, where every one of the original illustrations is a gem, and several are missing from recent editions. Shame!

I purchased this book for my sisters grandson, Joey. My sister was 3 years younger than I and we read the Color Kittens over and over. It helped me with reading skills and she learned her colors. I was so excited to see that hsi book has been re published, so I bought it right away and hopefully Joey and his Grandmother will make some new reading memories. The illustrations and text of this book are wonderful!! I would highly recommend buying this and share it with someone you love.
This was one of my favorite books growing up! So happy to have found it to share with my young niece. I highly recommend it! You and your children will fall in love with the bunnies and the beautiful colors in this book.

It’s almost identical to the 1949 first addition that I had as a child.
