The Lite-on LVW5005A is one of the simplest and easy to use--the only problem is with the front composite inputs if you use these there will be an electronic hum on the recording. Only use DVD+R blanks, the DVD-R blanks will actually lead to the recorder failing sooner then it should. Always power the unit off when not in used this will extend the life of the recorder. I wish it had 5.1 inputs, the only inputs are right and left stereo-it does play in 5.1 if you have a 5.1 DVD. I have owned several of these my first still works but is very beat up. Several people will fix these for you for a price less then the cost of a new compareable unit (check on EBay).

I like/love just about everything about this unit. The only negative (and a minor one at that) is the shape/design of the remote control. This particular purchase I only used briefly to confirm it's operational condition. The reason for ordering THIS unit, is that I've owned 2 others (1 of which is still operational), which have capabilities unlike other brands/units (able to also record cd's, and 3 hour recording time for dvd's. I believe only Philips' units, which I also own, have the 3 hour dvd recording feature. So, this is for a back up status.
Excellent outer design sleek good looking piece. Beautiful visual quality. Inner workings such as open/close operation, lacking , disc read, slow other than that it's a nice piece. This is my second unit. First one had same issues only lasted about 3-4 years. Also my nephew owns the same unit. He had to replace mother board.
