I purchased this amp brand new in Summer 2014. It has not been played much at all and now it doesn't function at all. It needs a new PCB installed, which is relatively easy to do. But I cannot get the PCB from anywhere on the planet because they are not being manufactured any longer and it's impossible to get one, thus my amp is dead! It's done! It's 2 years old and it's finished! Conversely, my 35 year old Mesa Boogie Studio preamp has parts available. DON'T BUY THIS, OR ANY OTHER LINE 6 AMP! As you can see from the photos, pcb is from 06, but i didn't buy the amp until 14! 8 year old boards in a new amp! Pathetic!

It’s an awesome set... Played it for 150-200 seating venue didn’t even use half of volume. Their "tube amp" Line 6 Spider Valve MkII HD100 boasts bona fide Bogner-designed 12AX7 preamp and 6L6 power amp sections that run at lethal voltages (about 300 volts and 450 volts, respectively) to produce exceptional depth, tonal coloration and richness.

I have owned a lot of amplifiers (Fender Bassman, Laney Pro Tube, Marshall JCM 800, Carvin 50W, Tube, Vox, Tube Works, Peavy, just to name a few). I had always thought of myself as a die-hard old-school tube amp guy. Before I owned this amp, my setup was a Bassman 50W and a Laney 100W head into a custom 4"x 12" slant cab loaded with both Celestion and Jenson Speakers. This setup sounded AWESOME, but was really difficult to lug around. Recently I had the opportunity to play a couple for solid-state Line 6 amps. I was really impressed by the variety of tones, but something was missing. The tone was there, but it sounded a bit sterile, and some dynamic of tonal coloration was absent. It seemed to always make the same tones regardless of how the note was played, it just sounded a little processed. Then I came across these Spider Valve Amps in a guitar catalog. These appeared to be the best of both worlds, digital amp modeling, effects, and a TUBE power amp all in one box. Very interested, but a little apprehensive, I hit the internet to see what other players had to say about them. After reading possibly as many as 100 different favorable reviews, I decided to take the leap. I purchased the Spider Valve combo with the 2 12" Celestion Vintage 30 Speakers, and man am I glad that I did!!! Right out of the box this thing sounds Killer!!! It is really easy to use, and dial in great tones. There are 12 different amp models that cover all of the great old historical tube amps from Fenders, Marshalls, Voxes right up to modern high-gain Mesa Boogies. The range of sounds in one box is really amazing. It wasn't however until I really cranked up the volume that I realized what this amp can do. This thing is LOUD!!! Once you get past 8 or 9 o'clock on the master volume knob, this amp opens up and sounds like a true tube monster. Great big gobs of gooey tube amp warmth were pouring out of this tiny box like a tsunami. The quality of the sound, and the number of features are truly amazing for the price, not to mention the size of this little guy. Things to consider: This amp is awesome, but you are only taking advantage of 1/10 of the possibilities unless you buy a Line 6 Shortboard for about another $250 (I found mine A LOT CHEAPER on EBay). With the Shortboard, you can save 9 times as many presets (totaling 36), you can combine amp models and effects in every preset, and turn on/off individual effects on the fly. Plus they throw in a volume pedal, a wah and a tuner all on one small portable foot controller. This for me is an absolutely must have. The shortboard is going to replace my entire pedal-board full of analog stomp-boxes that I have collected over the years. The really cool thing about this amp has nothing to do with Line 6 or Bogner (designer of the tube power section), but a company called Strymon Engineering (www.strymon.net). Terry Strymon has developed a tube 12ax7 pre-amp ($150 bucks) that replaces the analog to digital converter on the input jack. This tube connects to the transformers of the amplifier, so it is truly integrated into the amp, causing it to "sag" like a true tube amp. Once I installed this modification, this baby can stand up to any amp that I have owned tone wise. I would not even consider not doing this mod after trying it out. Now this amp is a true tube amp, with built in amp models, digital effects, and huge tonal possibilities. All in 1 small box that can rock small and big shows alike!!!Read full review
I’ve owned a number of Line 6 products in the past and have been just ok with them. However the Spider Valve is a different beast! I dialed in great tones in a snap. As any experienced player will tell you, it’s all in the tweaking. Good stuff here, but there are a few issues that are a bit of a bother. You have very little control of the limited effects parameters, and because the preamp’s first stage is digital you can’t truly get the tube feel and sound you would expect. It sounds great despite this. There are work arounds for both issues... BUT all in all, this is a great amp for gigs and practice... if you don’t need strengths in the above mentioned issues. If it were stolen I would buy the MKII but wouldn’t trade it for anything else.
I owned a Line 6 Vetta a few years back. I loved the flexibility but I really wanted the tube tone. With the Spider Valve, what's not to love? The Goods: It's got 4 6L6 power tubes that drive a great tone. It's got 12 amp models that let you instantly give you a great place to start from for any genre of music. It's freaking loud. I don't play metal, but I can play metal on this amp. Ha ha!! Plenty of presets to either use or base your tone off of. Built like a tank. Looks cool with the glass window in the front. The Bads (none are really that bad) Its a large head. No micro toaster head here. Just fits on top of my 4x12. It's confusing, at first, to figure out how to tame this thing. You really need a FBV Shortboard (prefer) or FBV Express to operate this amp in a gig.
