I bought these to go with a used Metal Detector I got locally. Brand name M/D headphones are terribly overpriced..! The Koss QZ-99's worked flawlessly and even the used, the owner took good care of them because they were just like new. These Koss QZ-99's are full over-the ear coverage which block out ambient noises like passing vehicles, airplanes, etc., I like that because it means less distractions..! If you Metal Detect, forget the high priced headphones, get yourself some of these babies, they're great...!

Sound is that of a cheap and small headset. Not natural sounding, bass and mid range is not there. Only one frequency and blocks quality of sound from laptop and Yamaha Stereo Receiver. Surprised this is a Koss headphone, not quality like I expect from Koss Headphones. I may have got a defective pair. I read good reviews on these. The one I got is not good at all. One side is lacking volume on the side with the volume control even on stereo setting. Comfort lacking, across the top of my head hurts from the band pressing hard after a few minutes.

Bought these headphones for metal detecting gold along noisy streams and creeks with my Whites GMT . They are great ! Used the stereo-mono switch and set them on stereo . Turned the volume on the GMT to max. Used the headphones volume control and set it so I could here the faintest detector threshold "hum". What a differance , amazing ! These headphones have no distortion (only 0.3% ) and are very clear sounding with 102dB sensitivity (these are not cheap 72dB and 32ohm walkman headphones) . 150 ohm ( ohms means electrical power needed to drive the headphone speakers, it has NOTHING to do with sound ) headphones will quickly drain your batteries. These headphones are 60 ohm. , which is what the White's Co. recommends for their detectors . They totally enclose your ears and have passive noise reduction( reduce outside noise by 90% ). They have a long cord which is needed for metal detecting, you can leave them on when you put your detector down and dig the gold out . These headphones are heavy duty but you can wear them ALL day . I give them a 10 on a scale of 1 to 10 . These are outdoor headphones and are very rugged. They were specially designed by Koss for Metal detectors , Racecar Pits , and people working around noisy aircraft . You can buy these on sell but they are a steal at full retail price. If you use a metal detector and want to block out the noise of Loud cars, people,or water ,so you can hear faint signals from your detector, I highly recommend these Koss headphones . -- Steven M. , Wa. Great set of headphones! I was looking for a nice set of isolation type headphones for recording drums and vocals and found a great solution. These headphones are very nice, especially for the price. Wonderful isolation is acheived with these, almost as good or as good as Extreme Isolation Headphones and also as comfortable or better. Adjustable volume on side of headphones is a plus and mono stereo switch is another great feature. There is no regret in purchasing this set of headphones and I would purchase again in the future if I needed another pair. If you want a nice, inexpensive pair of headphones, these are the way to go.
You know when you get a pair of headphones (or any piece of electronic equipment for that matter) and find it to be flimsy or of poor construction? Well, not here. The first thing you notice about these headphones is that they are built like a brick. The materials are sturdy and the construction, albeit not elegant, it is nonetheless solid. This makes for a sturdy but HEAVY pair of headphones. The cable is thick and the headband is wide and padded. The headphones even include a handy volume control and a stereo/mono switch which it has still to show its purpose. And this is where these headphones have its main (and for some) biggest weakness: its sound quality. The rich deep bass or warm mid sounds are mostly absent. All its left are frequencies above the 40Hz spectrum, so you are missing a lot of tones. On the other hand, boy do they block out external noise. These are circumaural headphones, which means they have circular ear pads (foam encapsulated by thin rubber) that completely surround your ears and form a tight seal. Some might find this uncomfortable, specially because they press strongly against the sides of the head. The benefit is that I cannot hear anything that goes on around the house, the wife, the cats, the noisy chain-smoking neighbors...nothing. Some noise do filter through but it has to be loud. So, buy and use these headphones for their limited purpose. If you are an audiophile don't even bother. I am not, as a matter of fact I do not like bass tones (I guess I am old fashioned) so for me it's great. Plus I love the feeling of paying for something that I know it won't break. These are also budget headphones so they won't break the bank. Hope this helps.Read full review
