This little unit is extremely easy to use and takes great outdoor video, super sharp and clear, on the other hand indoor vids, are maybe a little better than average, and low light video well don't waste your time images very grainy. So to recap....outdoor Excellent, indoor Average, low light Poor.... The rechargeable AA batteries seem to have DECENT LIFE SPAN and the best part is that in a pinch you can use any AA battery to get you through. If you take a lot of outdoor videos for the price in my opinion I think it's a great little pocket HD video camera. Having an SD Memory Card is also a handy to store you vids. The software is OK nothing to shout about but user friendly and easy to download and use. (I paid a $100 W/8GB SD Memory Card)
First of all, there may be better cameras when judging quality, but there is more to a useful camera than just quality (although important). But I will start off on quality of the recording- It is good, but not really HD. (it is inflated and is actually somewhat noticable). The HD rating must have been given to the camera because of it's "HD OUTPUT" connectors. This (to me) is not useful as I use it to capture video for online or archive use. If you are looking for a true HD camcorder, this is not it, nor will any flip be good enough- go ahead and spend a little more to a lot more on a full camcorder. However, if you are like 90% of the users who just want to HAVE the camera with them when they need it, and have decent video when you capture it- this IS probably the camera for you. Now I will move away from quality issues and mention that THIS CAMERA USES TWO AA BATTERIES (similar to the FLIP series), and I love that very much because NO MATTER where you are travelling, if your "internal battery" dies, so does your shooting... But with ALL my equipment I use rechargies, and if they die, I can buy AA's anywhere! The thing that made me purchase THIS camera INSTEAD of the FLIP series is that IT ACCEPTS REGULAR SD MEMORY- but the FLIP series does NOT accept additional memory and that is VERY limiting... There is a CAMERA mode to this device, which takes very poor quality photos since it has no flash, and shake is eminant. There are no other setup features on this device except for setting the TIME and DATE. And of course setting one of the three recording settings. It is sort of a let-down because other previous "flip cameras" have had the ability for motion detection, and time-lapse, etc. But this is not the intended use of such a device, and if you need those features look elsewhere. The SCREEN is HUGE in comparison to others, and this is the most stylish of the flippies I have ever seen. Oh yeah- this thing also has a flip out USB connector, and when it is plugged into a PC you can access the software also (which you may not want to install if you use superior software). Bottom line, an EXCELLENT "everyday carry" device for the youtoober. If you are looking for a more capible memory camcorder, try Samsung's MX-20 (or later) series (which record in stereo also), but like I said before- they do NOT use "AA" batteries and will leave you hanging if you really need to keep shooting on the go! I also find that my Samsung S850 Digital Camera takes video in quality comparable to this unit, neither record in stereo, but the S850 is not as easy to use, so when it comes to the moment being missed, this is probably your better choice, although the H.264 format is a hassle on a windows PC, but if you have a MAC it is delicious. For the PC users, you need to get and install CoreAVC codec to allow playback in media player (otherwise you are stuck with using Quicktime). As a note, the S850 (digital camera) video is not recorded in this format and is more usable in media editing software on a PC. (the s850 camera uses AA batteries also).Read full review
We took our Zi6 to Canada on vacation. It had a 16gb SDHC Card in it. We took over 250 picture and 5 20+ second HD videos and didn't come close to using up all of the memory. I love the fact that it uses AA batteries. We took several rechargeable spares and a recharger with us and never had to worry about the camera going dead on us. My only complaint is the audio - there's no provision for an external mike and the internal one does not provide enough volume. But overall it's a great pocket camcorder.
Okay. It looks snazzy. Nice viewfinder. I like the appearance. I somewhat like the controllers. Decent directions. Somewhat easy to locate drivers. But the input tether, or the neat flip usb arm is cool. If you have a laptop. Not if you have a desktop. It's cool if you have a Hd Tv came with all the necessary gear. Cabling and what not. Different ones traditional AV, and HD. Nice. But the traditional input is not available, for camera tether. It does have a USb flip arm. I like that. But, does not work well with a desktop. I have. Laptop yes. Did not come with a jumper if you do not use that, or cant on your laptop. The way it is set up, if you do it that way, would scratch it in my opinion. Over a period of time. No external speaker for sound. Im not used to the silent treatment for confidence recording. I think though it's a step in the right direction. Needs one more year in the works. Picture is nice on the viewfinder, usually grainy for Kodak. Digital. Had some iissues with Sd card. But formatting fixes that. I only had this for a few minutes. Out the box good for tv's, and some Pc's. Has volume control, but I see no external speaker. Records only in Hd. Which is fine. Takes good photos, and video. My sound did not work, through the external speaker. Upon arrival. Doa on that. Has external speaker. which is awesome. Didnt work. Has a micro bag, and batteries, and charger AA thats cool. But the SD card was nill. Other than that It would be cool, if the would ahve added SD card, and the sound would have worked.Ive tried for three hours, and followed directions. Nope, got to go back or look for a firmware update.Read full review
Techically is HD, just as a tomato is technically a fruit. For the price and compared to similar cameras like Flip, and Vado's, the quality of video is great and audio y good too. Easy connectivity, and very simple to use. A little larger screen than similar products. The programs that comes with the product is very handy, you can convert the files to other formats, adit videos, vie pictures, upload directly to twitter, facebook, youtube and other sites. Comes with rechargeable battery with charger! perfect camera for on the go users!
