I make all our bread at home in my Kitchenaid Pro series mixer with 5 1/2 qt bowl. While kneading and adding flour the mixer will squirt flour out of the bowl and onto the counter. I bought the pouring shield to reduce the amount of flour coming out of the bowl. The pouring shield does reduce this a lot, but it gets caught on the kneading hook and kicked around, sometimes nearly getting caught between the body of the mixer and the rotating arm. There is no way to secure the shield or keep it from being kicked around by the mixing arm. As long as you're watching the machine, you should be OK, just don't walk away.

i mix up dough for 500 cookies, which means i have to make 10 or 12 batches in my mixer. it's quite a floury mess at times. i used to cut a hole in disposable plastic lunch plate, then lay it across the top of the mixing bowl. it served the purpose, but kind of flimsy at that. this shield works much the same, good but not great. but it cuts down the flour shower on the counter top.

It keeps most of the mess contained, could be a little heavier because it is easy to knock off. Other than that I love it!

The shield will be very helpful. The flour won't be allover..
