I was disappointed by this entry in the Key West Food Critic series. As always, the descriptions of food and Key West attractions were wonderful, but the characters were mostly unpleasant. Edel, the chef whose restaurant is torched, was so demanding and ungrateful that I couldn't muster much sympathy for her. Hayley's alleged romantic interests, Wally and Bransford, constantly criticized or ignored her; I would have dumped them both. The inclusion of Hayley's cousin Cassie, a pro golfer, does not make sense unless you are familiar with the author's golfing mystery series, written under the name Roberta Isleib. If you ARE familiar with Cassie, you'll welcome her appearance and hope she'll help Hayley with the sleuthing. Instead, she mopes around and doesn't participate in the mystery. The plot meanders until the villains are finally revealed; one was obvious from the start, and it seems highly improbable the other would team up with the first. If you already follow this series, you'll want to read this entry, but it could have used a good editor.Read full review
