Great serger for the price; I purchased this serger because had a previous Janome serger for over 20 years that was still working well but it was difficult to get a good rolled hem. I really wanted to be able to make a quick change to a rolled hem because I wanted to do heirloom serging. With this serger all you have to do is rotate a couple of dials and flip a switch to adjust tension. It is a little loud but works great. It does not have self threading so if you have never had a serger before that can be intimidating. There are great videos on YouTube that show how to use this serger in detail.

Other ads for this machine purport it to be self threading or similar for the lower loopers. Not so. Non-Janome sites confuse a technique using the old thread to guide the new thread through the looper guides. Knowable seamstresses think this is not a good practice. It certainly is not a Baby Bliss which really it's self threading and lots more money. Please note, this is a highly rated machine.

I bought my new serger about a month ago and could not be happier. About 25 years ago I bought a basic 3-thread BabyLock when sergers first came out. At the time I thought it was great, even tho' it was VERY difficult to thread and didn't have differential feed. I kept it so long because it worked, and I hate to get rid of something that still works. But in the last 5 years it hasn't been sewing very well and I decided to splurge and FINALLY buy a new one. I AM SOOO GLAD I BOUGHT THE MYLOCK 634D. I did some research and read the reviews for many different sergers. The Janome MyLock 634D had great reviews and all the options I would need, and the price was very reasonable. This serger is GREAT! It sews so smooth and quiet. It is very easy to thread. And you get so many options on it, like the rolled hem, picot edging, decorative overedging, gathering, and pin tucking. Plus it is made by Janome, an excellent brand of sewing and serger machines. I have had a New Home sewing machine, made by Janome, for 15 years. While it would be nice to have a new one, mine still works smooth and great. Plus, the MyLock gives you some great tips for serging, like how to better secure the ends when serging. The instructions are easy to understand and follow, with pictures to show you how. I have done a lot of sewing these last 30 years: 6 bridal dresses, about 20 bridesmaid dresses, too many regular dresses to count, tops, shorts, and more. Now with grandchildren I again look forward to sewing. Also, I am getting into quilting. And I know it will be enjoyable. I would definitely recommend this serger for everybody who needs a good 4/3/2 thread serger at a reasonable price. It was WELL worth the price.Read full review
It seems to be very rugged. The seller did a very poor job of packing and it still survived the transport. This is my first serger but it was not hard to thread. I found a good video tutorial on Youtube and it made things perfectly clear. I would buy another of this same model if I had to do it all over again.

I had an older janome serger that was harder to thread. The quality stitches on this machine are very good.
