Linus believes that The Great Pumpkin will bring toys to all the children who believe in him on Halloween night. Lucy, Snoopy, Sally, Pigpen and just about everyone else except maybe Charlie Brown, think he is making a fool out of himself. They go out for Trick or Treat for candy but Linus and Sally stay in the pumpkin patch waiting for the Great Pumpkin to come. There is hope, faith, expectation and caring. Hey, either you belive in Santa, The Easter Bunny or the Great Pumpkin, or you don't! We even have Snoopy, the W.W.I. flying ace in a dog fight with The Red Baron behind enemy lines. This is arguably one of the 2 or possibly 3 best Peanut features Charles Schulz ever created. It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown has wit and wisdom that not only children can relate to, but adults can understand also. The bonus feature: You're not elected, Charlie Brown is another 25 minute feature. Linus is running for student body president and it's a close race. Charlie Brown is his campaign manager and of course he has help from Lucy, Snoopy, Woodstock and all the rest. During the debate with his opponent, Linus is on a role until he brings up the subject of the Great Pumpkin (that's the tie in with the other feature.) Of course, the election results are a surprise. Certainly not as good as the first feature, but entertaining none the less.Read full review
Watching the Peanuts Classics with my family are some of my most cherished memories. Since there was no such thing as home PC's, VCR's etc. You had to make sure you were home since these only aired once a year. So we prepared ahead of time snacks, drinks our favorite chair (I laid on the carpeted floor in front of our new "color" tv) glued to the screen remembering each scene by heart but just as excited as seeing the show for the very first time. This may seem crazy but I always hope Charlie Brown actually gets to kick the ball and I always feel sorry for Sally every time I watch the show, hoping she will finally wise up and go off trick or treating with the other kids but of course she's stuck in time to sit in the Pumpkin Patch smitten by the love bug with Linus whose only interested in presents from the Great Pumpkin. Now that I own my own DVD I will watch "Its The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown" through out the year when ever the urge hits. My only complaint with any of the Peanuts Classics is that they are way to short in length.Read full review
This is another great Peanuts special and it's a Halloween special. This special is amazing you get to see your favorite characters dress up and go trick or treating and Linus is obsessed with a mythical creature known as the great pumpkin, which nobody believes that exist, and they think he is crazy. And then you get to see Snoopy as one of his most iconic characters as the world war 1 flying ace and you get to see him play it out while Charlie Brown narrates it. This special is a big hit with children and adults and fans of Peanuts. This special needs to be watched every Halloween. The story, voice acting and animation is amazing. If you have not seen this Special then I recommend you do. This special is Cinematastic, oh and there is a bonus episode called It's Magic Charlie Brown and that one is really good too. This one is about how Snoopy learns magic and accidentally turns Charlie Brown invisible and he finally gets to kick that darn football out of Lucy's hand's victory for Charlie BrownRead full review
Verified purchase: No
I have watched this since it was put on tv and then shared with my children and now bought the dvd for my graddaughter who is 1.9 yrs old so she would know what it is like to dress up and meet other people and receive treats on this day. She also carved her great pumpkin. It is a good movie for all ages, no swearing, sexual content, not scary.
HI~I grew up with The Peanuts Gang and I have instilled the same growing up to watch them with my children whom are grown now in their 20's. I have a grandson who turned 2 on May 4th of 2011 and I have bought quite of few of the cartoons, but by unanimous vote, my grandchild has chosen , "It's The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown" as his favorite. He loves the movie so much, he saw Linus eat an apple in the beginning of the scene, now he wants apples every time! Yay! Need I say more! A+++!
