I grew up watching IRONSIDE on NBC. It was a well-written, well acted dramatic series that ran from 1967 to 1975. Add to that the legendary Quincy Jones wrote the great theme music made it a classic series. The first night I received the first season's dvds I watched the 2 hour pilot and the first 3 episodes. The quality of the dvd's were superb as was the episodes. If you were a fan of Raymond Burr and/or quality television I highly recommend you purchase the first season dvds of IRONSIDE. Generally, the dramatic shows of the 1960's were brilliant. What do we have to choose from in drama in television shows these days? who is going to get voted off the island or out of the house? (Big Brother). PLEASE!!! there's no comparison.
After watching all 9 seasons of Perry Mason twice, then watching the much later Perry Mason TV movies, I decided it was time to delve into Ironside. The 1967 San Francisco setting, combined with a colorful cast of characters, frames Raymond Burr's very gruff character as a retired Chief of Police in a wheelchair consulting for the current Chief. The writing is decent, plenty of famous guest stars, and the episodes are pleasantly engaging. If you like Raymond Burr, cop and detective shows, and the 1960's San Francisco scene, you'll spend many entertaining hours going through this set. I can't wait to move on to seasons 2,3, 4, etc.

I cannot believe this show debuted forty years ago. But one look at the first episode confirms it. Men still wore hats, everybody smoked, and dialogue that is out of this world (e.g., "Crazy, man. Can you dig it?"). Were the 60's really that hokey? Raymond Burr is outstanding as the crippled cop (no P.C. language back then) who barks orders at every one and they love him for it. Crime never had a chance. For a trip down memory lane without any chemical assistance, I heartily recommend this DVD set.
I had not seen the show I years. I am so glad I purchased this. This is entertaining and does keep your attention. Very exciting show. This has a lot of episodes.
