I read this from beginning to end in one fell swoop and I found it fascinating. The crime? A schoolteacher murders her husband, a man suspected of having an affair with the wife of a girl he coaches in softball. The murder case drives a wedge in the surviving members of both families, including the two sons of the murdered man. THey end up deeply divided, one supportive of his mother, one not. This is a family which had serious problems long before the murder, evidence that comes out as the book moves out. What sets this book apart from other true crime tales is the viewpoint of the author. She admits right up front that what drew her to the story was how it reminded her of her own divorce and the anger and rage she'd felt at the time. So there is a mix of reporting what happened in the murder case interspersed with comparisons and reflections about her OWN marriage. I'm ambivalent about how well this works in the book but the murder case itself is riveting, as well as the very clear effects on both families. If you've ever wondered what can make love go wrong and drive someone to commit murder, this is a book worth reading!Read full review
