It's true, but now that I have your attention, there are other good reasons to see this film. The unusual premise: a hungry, moral vampiress who chooses to target a Mafia don, only to mistakenly turn this underworld boss into the undead. The all-star cast, including: Robert Loggia as the smooth, savage boss; Don Rickles emoting well as his consigliere; and even a few made guys who will became more familiar later in The Sopranos. The sweetly seductive Anne Parillaud, of Nikita fame, gives a memorably sensual performance as a French vampire in New York who must team with a cop to "put the bite" on her inadvertent creation. This movie is a somewhat less polished companion to director John Landis's An American Werewolf in London. But if you loved that film, this one is certainly worth a look. The emphasis here tilts more toward humor than horror, and the screenplay probably could have used another rewrite or two. Still, it has some great moments. Landis has a way with gore, and the action and effects are first-rate. A good Saturday night popcorn or date movie, for sure. A minor downside: as of this writing (Oct. 2008), there's only a full-screen format available on dvd.Read full review
this movie grabbed me from the opening sceene with the great accent of Anne Parillaud. She plays the vampire, showing great strength but uses her femininity to her advantage and with some fun. Some memorable lines, from a few actors. Anthony Lapaglia plays a cop but keeps an open mind as to what might be going on. there is violence, and swearing and blood sceenes but they are the bad guys, so no one is concerned. there is comedy and it is played very well. there is an excellent sceene at the morgue with Robert Loggia and Frank Oz. there is also a love story and the Girl gets the Guy. I have watched it twice and liked it just as much the second time around.
its about a French vampire who does not like to be miss treated or forced to do things that she does not like and to those men she bites this death bite, but one she doesn't and he is her nightmare, because he is a leader in the mafia and gets some of his men to become vamps and this becomes so bad, that she has to fix it, and she does, oh yeah and she falls in love with this man who helps her. I bought this because of Robert Loggia who died recently, he is so mean in this, he was a good actor.
