I researched this book prior to purchasing and it was exactly what I expected. I had also read other buyer's reviews so I had a good idea what it was and was not. It is not a "how to" on photography, that part of the title can mislead some people. The text is primarily captions for the pictures. It is a beautiful photo gallery, table top photo book of the history of the atomic bomb program. That being said, I keep mine sealed up in my book case to keep it in pristine condition. My book is hard bound and seems well made. How it holds up over time remains to be seen. The photographs are still shots as well as frames from high speed high definition film, capturing the progression of atomic bomb blasts frame by frame. They are incredible images, both artistically and scientifically when you consider these are the fundamental energies of the atom being unleashed. The photographs seem to span the history of atomic bomb experiments from atmospheric detonations, to underground and underwater explosions, but I am no expert in atomic bomb history. Viewing the pictures one is filled with a sense of nostalgia for the innocence and optimism of the era - the 1940s and 1950s and the presumed wonder that must have been felt by the progress of science and the unleashing of such powerful forces. Of course the ensuing fear of atomic annihilation also enters the viewers mind. This is a highly recommended book for anyone in love with pictures and history. I give it 5 out of 5 stars because it was exactly what I expected it to be - a well made photographic record of atomic bomb tests and explosions.Read full review
