A pleasure to hear Harvey Mandel back in action. Apparently, his medical troubles have subsided and he is ready to rock. What is really interesting about "Snake Pit" is that it is entirely an album of guitar-exercises - not a vocal to be heard. Over the past decades, us Mandel fans had grown accustomed to all the guest singers on his records and in performance. That was just Mandel trying to deliver a conventional rock music sound, as he had assumed we all wanted. And us hardcore fans would all sit patiently through the sung material, waiting for when he would get around to making his axe go "BOOM!" This time around, he is getting right to the point. For a newbie, or a lifer, this is a Mandel album that I can recommend strongly. It will give you a guitar thrill. This is also true for his follow-up album from this year, "Snake Attack". It is fabulous to hear Mandel giving us exactly what we have always hoped to hear from him, now on album end-to-end. Read full review
