That particular model receiver has poor sound processors 7200 is night and day superior but the 7200 has a design flaw that causes shorting in the face plate with the cover of the receiver making it unreliable and it is so complicated no one will attempt to repair it. The upside is I can use the 7000 to amplify my 7200 and thus I may retain the super high quality Burr Brown processors found in the 7200 as they are lossless and do not exist today. The Moral to this story is this vendor is upright, receiver was in fine working order and packagesd competently. The only flaw was the volume nob was not original but I had an extra. E. Scaffidi

(July 2011) I am an audiophile; am extremely critical about the audio/video equipment that I use. My motto or slogan is “Nihil aut optimum” meaning “nothing but the best” I took my time to do extensive research and reading of reviews on receivers both old and current makes and models in the market in a quest to upgrade my current system. Then I came across the Harman Kardon AVR 7000, a receiver that came into the market over 10 years ago at a price tag of around $1700. I read reviews by users in Europe, Australia, United Kingdom and here in the United States. I got interested. I just love the size and the color which reminds me of the Sansui AU7900 amplifier I had in the early 70s as a college student in Nigeria. I bid for it at ebay and I got it at a very good price. I set it up and behold, it was very user friendly. The power and the clarity were formidable. Bass was very punchy, clean and tight. Treble was very natural, non harsh and very clean. Like other Harman Kardon receivers, the conservative power output rating, high current circuitry with the toroidal transformer really set this unit apart from most of the competitors in the market within the same price range. No matter how high you turn the attenuator (volume control) there is no noticeable distortion. Please do not blow your speakers with this monster. This unit lacks HDMI connections but do not be deceived; using optical cables for my audio and component cables for my video connections provides extremely good digital audio and video experience in the same class with HDMI. I did series of tests at low and high volume levels listening to music and watching movies, I was and remain very satisfied. Despite the lack of HDMI connections, it is my considered opinion that this receiver has power and all round sound and video quality that will satisfy the most discerning audiophile. Only few are still in circulation so grab one if available, you cannot go wrong.Read full review
The receiver is a fine example of Harman Kardon workmanship. They clarity of the signal is excellent. Set up takes a little time . The remote is back lit and easy to read.Be sure to have audio / video shelf that will support its weight. Also keep in mind due to the overall size it does get warm. The dolby digital signal is ultra clean. There is a slight delay when swithing between the audio options. I would highly recomend this receiver.
I've owned this unit since new (around 1995). It can be finely adjusted using your TV screen and the remote. You can set the sound delay in micro seconds for each of the 5 speakers, along with individual speaker volume control. There are other less critical settings which will help tune the unit to the room its in. It requires plenty of ventillation and should be kept in the open. Well worth today's prices, even though there is no USB or bluetooth hook ups. It would be very hard to find something new with the same specs.
