One is strong enough to hold a fully loaded Glock 23; but would need two to hold full size pistols. I plan using two for safety's sake anyway! There are no mounting screws included with product. The magnets are encased in a protective material ( neoprene rubber?) that will protect metal surfaces.

I've noticed that there's always a tug of war between what the salesman claims the product does to "what the product does". If you read their description you'd think this magnet would easily hold any gun with no problems. Well let me give you the "real" description of what you can expect. First you should know that I'm using this magnet to hold a Kimber pro model handgun. This is the 4" 45ACP with a 8 round mag. Larger than most weapons but smaller than a full sized gun. If they claim this magnet holds full sized weapons then it should have no problem holding this one. Here's the skinny...the magnet holds the weapon but not all that securely. If you just pop the gun up to the magnet either the nose of the gun will dip, or the butt of it will. It isn't powerful enough to hold the gun at a angle and keep it there. Now if you balance the gun just right the magnet will hold the gun in the straight positon. For some that is fine, after all it will technically hold the gun. But for me its not enough. I want the product to work right the first time. I want to place my gun to the magnet and it hold it in whatever angle it caught it at. If you want to place the gun under the magnet where the magnet is mounted on top and the gun is under it then you're in trouble of it not holding it. It just strong enough to hold but any bumping of the gun will probably knock it off. For those of you wondering, I mount this at my bed side, so there's no rocking, bumps, or moving of any kind. For that its fine, you'll just have to position it right and it will hold. But if you're using it in the car I think you'll have problems with your gun falling. If you have a full sized 5" gun I'd say find something else. If you have a 3" gun you'll probably be fine with this magnet. Overall I say no for any 5", Yes only to 4" guns you use outside of a vibrating environment, and Yes to any 3" or smaller hand guns. Hope this helped.Read full review

"This is an amazing gun magnet, it's a great magnet, it's what makes gun magnets great. But seriously, it's amazing! Its easy to secure to the surface you plan to attach it to. I had screws that worked with it and attached it to the bottom of a partical board desk. It securely has held my 1911, and my Glock 17. I've purchased three more to give two as a gift and use the second to attach a weapon behind a night stand in the bed room. I will probably order even more for myself because I go everywhere with my concealed weapon, so when I'm at work, I'll have somewhere out of the way to secure my weapon when I want to take my gun off and not leave it in a drawer, but still have access to it quickly if I need it. My only suggestion is to put some kind of cloth over the top of the magnet to help prevent marring/scratches."Read full review

"I have literally tried about 15 different ""magnet"" type of mounting options. First, I would say most overly extend their actual holding force. Next I would say most aren't very flexible how they contact the firearm. For example the longer flat ones are not complete magnets they are just a couple little bar magnets glued on plastic with a cheap plastic covering. Unless the firearm can lay flat across the whole surface they don't hold very well. They also have a tendency to fall apart over time as the cheap glue on the magnets starts to give out and the cover doesn't stay on so well. Others take a doughnut magnets and put a cheap plastic cover over them. Again glue breaks down and covers come off. Both styles are also thin. Depending how you are mounting, it makes it difficult to get a good quick grip to pull the gun off. None of them are really good with revolvers due to the cylinder sticking out past the frame. I.e limited flat surface for mounting. Depending on the grip panels or safety / mag release buttons and levers on a semi auto gun still may not lay flat enough to get a good mount on the magnet. What is really nice about this one is how it addresses most of the issues. First thing they did is place 2 very strong cylinder magnets next to each other. This maximizes the holding force to a much smaller area. This means a much stronger connection to the gun and the smaller area greatly increases the flexibility to fit some place on the gun. Next they molded a 1 piece body. This removes the issue of having a cheap cover that comes off and breaks over time. Finally they made it so the magnets enter the body from behind. This means that even if the glue breaks down over time the magnets are captured between the body and the mounting surface. No risk of pulling the gun off and the magnets and cover come with it. Depending how you mount this could actually mean you still have to pull magnets and covers off your gun before it works. Not a good risk to take if you assume this could happen in a defensive situation. You also do not have the risk the glue gives way and the firearm falls off the mount. Finally they do provide a little stand off but still provide a low profile. This allows you the ability to make the most contact with the magnetic surface but still lay flat where revolver cylinders, safety levers, mag release buttons are not an issue. It also gives you just enough stand off that my sausage fingers can fit around the grip to pull it out in a ready state. I do not have to still adjust my grip after pulling it out. The one thing I did change is the mounting surface that makes contact with the firearm. It comes in with a harder plastic surface. It probably would not cause wear to the finish, but I am one of those anal retetive people that cleans after every use and do not want extra wear marks / finish damage. I took a few clean patches / wash cloth material and lightly glued it on the mating surface. First this helps protect the finish when taking the gun on and off because I'm ""that guy"". The second thing it does is actually make retrieval easier and smoother. The sliding friction is reduced when pulling off but the magnet force to hold the firearm on the mount is still rock solid. Just don't get crazy and try to put an in inch worth of material on. Overall I am extremely pleased with build quality, simplicity, ease of use, flexibility to attach, and strength of magnetic force. I have already purchased again and will again in the future!"Read full review

Here's the deal, this is a great product. From what I've read of the bad reviews on this product its because it scratches up peoples guns. Well there's a simple answer to that. I used the soft portion of velcro with the adhesive you can get at stores like Staples or OfficeMax. There's no need to complain over something that's so easy to fix, heck duct tape would do the trick. Now there is a drawback of the velcro, I noticed that the gun can slide around, not fall off but there is still movement and I didn't like that so since the purchase came with 2 magnets I just added the second one and problem solved. Its a good product and I plan on buying more.
