My brother (luthier extrordinaire) was about to join a rock school sponsored by Orange Amps. Only problem, no electric guitar. So he comes knocking on my door(since I own over 30). I asked what he was looking for? He said, "a thin hollowbody would be nice". Well, I love all my Gretsch's (I currently own five) and hate to give/sell any of them, I felt obligated to offer him my g6420. Especially after heard he gave my sister his harley the daly before and also, it was my brother who first turned me on to rock and roll and playing music. He first noticed that is was made over seas and he has some kind of idea that if it is not USA made, it is crap. I told him to just hold that thought and tell me if he felt the same after giving it a try. He called the next day and thanked me for the Gretsch and couldn't be happier. So happy was he, that he gave me one of his custom f style mandolins that sell for far more than the cost of the Gretsch. Happy as I was for my brother, I couldn't help but look each day at the empty wall hanger that once held the guitar. A month passed and I couldn't stand it any longer. I first thought to replace it with the exact model, but then I saw the 5422TDCG. It was love at first site. I had to have it and I don't regret the purchase for a moment. It screams of stage presents. So lite, my grandma could play it all nigfht without complaint and finally and foremost, the famous Gretsch sound that covers all the bases. Country, Jazz, Blues, Rockabilly or pop. But what I love most is the soaring mean growl that comes out of my Marshall tube amp once I turn the volumne past 5. If you don't think a Gretsch can really rock, I suggest to everyone, sit down and listen to The Cult's Sonic Temple disc and I think you'll change your tune. Last two people that I let try this guitar went out and bought one just like it the next day.Read full review

It's a gorgeous guitar - finish is immaculate. Played great upon delivery. It is used but in excellent condition. I assume that it was set up for the original owner and the set up is excellent. The bridge pickup bites a bit and I'm still getting used to them. But, love the decision to purchase and use it every week for a Sunday performance through a small Fender Super Champ XD. Great guitar!

If you play the thumbstyle, I recommend this guitar, and it is also good for single note playing. It has the Gretsch sound.
