I've seen a lot of negative reviews of this movie, but after watching it I can say it's not that bad... nothing special, but not bad. I'm a casual Green Lantern fan, personally; I know about the character from Justice League and other cartoons, but I've never read the comics. The movie's plot is pretty standard as superhero movies go: a brash, headstrong pilot named Hal Jordan gets a ring that lets him create anything he can imagine through force of will (the prologue explains that Will (represented by the color green) and fear (yellow) are sources of power in this universe), and he becomes part of the Green Lantern Corps, an intergalactic police force. I found the scenes on Oa, the Green Lantern planet, particularly cool in their visual design. Meanwhile, a cosmic fear entity called Parallax escapes from its asteroid prison and sets out to destroy Earth, and only Hal has the courage to stop it. I'll grant that this movie doesn't live up to the hype surrounding its theatrical release, but the movie itself is pretty well done, especially the visual effects. If anything, this movie fails by not being more than a typical superhero movie. As for the dvd, the only special features are a preview of Justice League #1 digital comic and a preview of the Green Lantern Animated Series. Basically, all you're getting here is the movie.Read full review
I enjoyed this movie very much. I thought it followed the comic very well. I particularly liked the scenes of our Green Lantern out in space with the other members of the corps. The special effects were excellent and the suit was awesome. Sinestro who you can probably guess by his name will become one of our heroes main adversaries was great. The main villain of the story evolves (degenerates? You decide.) into a Lovecraftian horror who challenges our hero to his utmost in the thrilling final battle. Movies based on comics should be colorful and fun. DC got this one right. If you like Green Lantern in the comics then I think you will like this movie.

A test pilot embraces his destiny as a cosmic superhero in CASINO ROYALE director Martin Campbell's adaptation of the popular DC Comics series. Ever since he saw his fearless father perish in a tragic aviation mishap, all Hal Jordan (Ryan Reynolds) could think about was flying -- it was the only thing the brash, cocky, and irresponsible test pilot ever truly excelled at. Little did he realize he was destined for something much bigger.
