I owned one of these, was completely and meticulously restored to original before stolen. I used it for guitar and bass, depending on my needs. Needless to say, at around 85 watts output, for guitar, way more power than needed, but it had that classic vintage Fender sound. A nice power soak brings the compression/sustain and distortion in much earlier. For bass, I enjoyed the vintage tube sound (either JBL 2245/Carvin 2x10 red or a single GK Neo 15). Able to keep up with anything but really loud drummers, depending on how clean you want the sound. Hard to find good clean units that we'll intentioned techs haven't boogered up. Good news - find a good old school tech, these are easy to restore or mod. Negatives - obviously no Master volume or reverb, but there are two input channels, two inputs each, with each input having a slightly different tone and gain characteristic. Mine was exceptionally quiet. Still shedding tears after a year. I "replaced" it with a Super 60. Although I do miss the vintage-Ness of the Showman, the Super 60 (again having been restored) is a more functional replacement. But - it's an early stacked circuit board design. Makes repairs (like touching up old solder joints that are failing) a bit more costly due to time in taking the whole thing apart... But - I digress...Read full review

Hi. I bought the first black showman sold in Nebraska in July of 1964. Still have it and it still works great. Reconed speakers and recapped amp about ten years ago. The first ten years I played auditoriums, armorys and some clubs etc. It never failed me and it never had a problem keeping up with the volume, these things can get REALLY LOUD, especially with the original d130f speakers. They are also incredibly tough and reliable but also heavy. In later years I bought a lighter amp but I still sometimes drag it to the job just to show the young guys what real firepower is. You'd love it, Marshall
