It is my first tempo trainer, so I really have nothing to compare it to, but I'm happy with it. Other than the beeping that I hear when I'm practicing, I don't really notice that it is there because it is very lightweight. It also appears to be durable because I've already dropped it several times, and it is still working fine. I'd recommend it to anyone trying to perfect their timing while doing laps.

Because of high register hearing loss I can't hear the beeps very well. If only it were a lower frequency beep (like around 500 hz). I can hear the beeps when it is in my swim cap, but as soon as I am splashing in the water, I can't hear the beeps any more. I couldn't hear the beeps running outdoors either. I suspect for someone with better ears, it is fine. I don't know, but I would guess it is about 3000 hz.

Works great. Expensive for what little technology it takes to create such a device. It doesn't have to be as wide as it is and could easily be thinner and thus more comfortable. It's easy to hear and not too loud that swimmers in the next lane can hear it.

I purchased 3 of these for my son who is a competitive swimmer. My understanding is that is use for 2 different timing methods though would need to ask him further to understand this. I bought the 3rd because there were quite a number of reviews that state that the device battery cover leaks and it gets flooded and dies. I have not found that any of these have flooded yet after several months almost daily use. I was however a bit surprised that it holds its seal well, despite having no ring gasket or any apparent seal. Good plastic to plastic fit appears to work on this device. So overall, it does assist with training very much.

The concept is very good and the unit is easily programmed. The problem I had is that I couldn't find a location under my cap where I could hear the tone while submerged (I could hear it fine when standing in shallow water, but it was difficult or impossible to hear while swimming). Maybe my ear canal filled with water while swimming?
