The temper is just right. Throws hot sparks from a sharp flint, and from a firesteel as well. I haven't used the bowdrill bearing yet, but I'm sure it will work as well as everything else. Versatile, compact (comes in its own tinderbox) and small enough to fit all of my other tinderboxes. It will last a lifetime. A very good investment.

This strikers steel will generate a shower of sparks from any halfway decent piece of flint or chert. I’m not talking about using a “fire steel” or ferrocium rod although it can be used as a scraper on those. I’ve made my own steel strikers out of files, but this ESEE striker is even better. It’s kind of pricey, but it’s performance is outstanding.
