One of Dr. Suess' best and most socially relevant stories, turned into a musical short cartoon movie. Too bad this gem of a flick is all but forgotten - this tells the story of what happens once "The Once-ler" comes to the Truffula tree forest inhabited by The Lorax ("I speak for the trees") and his animal friends. Eventually, on account of the need for "Thneeds," an utterly ridiculous invention made of the leaves of the truffula trees by the Once-ler and his family, the land is deforested and left bare of any plant or animal life. The movie ends with a note of hope, and the viewer is left to decide what the unnamed protagonist must do to avoid this ever happening again. The songs are a bit dated, and it does drag near the end. Still, it is an entertaining environmental fable with classic animation and would make a great first exposure for any child to environmental issues. Why don't they start makling this product new again (it's much more meaningful than "The Grinch" or "The Cat in the Hat")? Until they do, E-bay may be the best source for such classic, entertaining material with a strong message.Read full review
My 10 year son had been looking for this video so I decided to let him "try" to find it on E-Bay. Sure enough there it was! We ordered and recieved it in less then a week. Thrilled that he had "found" a treasure he watched it and said it was everything he thought it should be. Good story on saving trees and how to take care of our planet. Heinze.
Classic example of how we came to be in the environmental mess we are all in. Greed over riding common sense. A brilliantly written tale that should be shown in all elementary school systems. Great food for thought with our younger generations;
