This is an engaging book, easy to read, and if you have an interest in loosing weight, changing your eating lifestyle, and understanding the need to eat properly for healthy living, this is your book. The most important thing I took from this book: By understanding the metabolic process of how your body reacts to certain foods, you are no longer prey to those advertisers that promote weight loss with their products and you will know how to read labels. You will eat properly, feel healthy, and through your actions show a lifestyle to your children, friends, and relatives. This is how America will win the war on obesity and diabetes.
This book has a ton of scientific info. Atkins breaks down how the body looses weight in plain english. I personally lost 145 lbs using the atkins diet. There are many things in this book to scare you into living your life in a healthier way. The thing that scared me most was the facts he gave about what sugar does to your body on a cellular level. I believe he used the term cooking, as in sugar cooks our cells from the inside out causing rapid aging. Since I read this book I have lived a much healthier lifestyle and I feel GREAT. I would recomend this book for anyone who has always had a hard time with their weight, you may be doing things that you dont even know are causing you to gain. This book will give you the knowledge that you need to do it.
This is a proven diet & worked for me. Wanted to let other relatives read this book, as it give a logical explanation to why this diet works. People in general eat too many processed foods, where most if not all the contents are carbs. We obviously need carbs to survive, but not in an excessive amount. This book is worthy to read, as it proves that whole foods are the way eat! One the body is deprived of normal daily carbs, this is only one way to get the needed carbs, this to use it's own reserve (fat). With this diet one can eat all the protein one desires, and stay mostly full, satisfied. The carb reduction is enough to trigger ketosis, (the biological process of retrieving/using stored carbs) and one is NOT totally eliminating carbs from their diet. Depending on how much is restricted will net how much per week ones loss is. Ketosis is totally healthy & natural part of our biology that is rarely used, and that is why most of us are overweight. There are also proper snacks one can have when extra fuel is needed. A good book!Read full review
