This turntable is compact and easy to use, comes with necessary USB cable. Because tone arm is so small, cueing on a disc is tricky to difficult, when attempting to sample individual LP tracks in random order. Tip: look for Audacity version 2.1.2 to get stereo (not turntable's fault).

I bought this to convert some old LPs into digital music. Knowing that audacity can edit the audio, I figured this was a no-brainer. Not too expensive and all Turntables can go through an RIAA pre amp (and audacity has settings for that). After I got the unit, I used it on an album I had and compared it to MP3s of the same album. The sound was missing Bass for sure. Adding in the RIAA equalization settings in audacity either over or under shot the bass in each song. I couldn't get settings that would work on every song on the SAME ALBUM. It almost sounded like the old time record players that you had to crank up by hand. After giving up and borrowing a turntable, running it through my pre-amp (with RIAA equalization), I finally got a decent recording with NO EDITS NEEDED. Comparing the sound from this unit to the professional turntable was night and day difference. In summary: if you just want to record a few songs and don't really care that you will need to spend time editing each song, or are fine with "fair" sound quality, then this unit is for you. If not, then keep looking.Read full review

This turntable is fine mechanically: It is compact, has good turntable stability and is simple to connect and operate. The drawback, however, is in the frequency response of the tone arm. Or perhaps it is the bandwidth of the signal sent to an external amplifier. Whichever it is, there is no bass presence in the signal at all, with not much on the high end, either. No amount of amplifier equalization can compensate for this narrow bandwidth; the frequencies just aren't there to be boosted. Spend a few more dollars and get the FULL fidelity that is in the grooves of your vinyl records, by purchasing a name brand turntable with a magnetic pickup.

Great for converting to mp3 however when I tried using as a standalone turntable hooked into my receiver sound was very disappointing. Otherwise a great product.
