If 2001 home networks connections for A/V amps were rare, on screen setups with HDMI connects were unicorns!I That being said this is a wonderful solid receiver with 5.1 outputs, Optical In and Out, and FANTASTIC sound! Because of the lack of on screens setup, getting things configured is a bit of a pain. You're dealing with the early 2000s aesthetic based control panel. BUT for this price this is still one of the standards for the era!

Outstanding!!!!! One of the very best purchases I have ever made. Everyone is impressed with the quality of sound it sends to my Polk Audio speakers. My room has become the favorite dance hall in town. If you like it LOUD and rockin come on over.

I use this receiver with Logitech Z-5500 speakers and a bass amplifier on the sub woofer attached to the powered sub port. The sound quality is very good, it is capable of ridiculously high volumes without noticeable distortion, and fits right in my desk. I use it on my desktop PC for music, movies, and games. In movies, it sounds like I was actually in a theater & in games, you can feel every gunshot and explosion, as well as added ambiance. The switched headphone jack and extensive connections are also very nice, but most importantly, the EXT. IN 6 channel direct input. A prototype connection in its day. (2000) I use this connection to get true 5.1 from three headphone type connectors on my PC's sound card. I also use the Optical connection, the old digital coax connection for my older desktop when I have it at my desk, and others for laptops or mp3 players. I have connections to spare. This product would not suit many customers due to its lack of HDMI, Bluetooth, or Wi-Fi connections, but for what it is, it works beautifully.Read full review
The AVR 1602 is a heavy duty quality unit. The basic concept is for this unit to be the master audio video controller tuner and amp. It supports 5 speakers on the "A" output plus the Sub woofer output to a powered SW speaker (the .1 in the 5.1 designator), - FR, Cntr, LF, Rsur, Lsur, and two speakers on the "B" output. It also switches S-video inputs from multiple sources. The radio receiver/tuner is built in and there are 6 input modes, CD, DVD,Receiver/tuner, Tv, Vcr, and Aux. It has both digital coax and optical input sources for audio (assignable to specific operational modes) and multiple inputs via rca plugs. You will need to read the manual and have the remote control to set up this machine, but it is worth the effort. You will need to go through the "system" setup via the remote to set speaker size, distance, and power differential for best sound. Each mode (ie. cd, tv, tuner, ect.) will have seperate settings for each mode (a non system setup) as to output effect, Surround, 5 channel stereo, other effects (many choices). All this is a high quality of build. The 1602 is about 70 watts per channel. A similar unit the AVR 1802 is nearly the same, but slightly higher in power. I have had two of the 1602 units and highly regard them. The only thing about the units they are pre HDTV and will not switch the HDTV signal, it will have to go directly to the TV from the source (cable, DTV/sat) and if multiple sources, then the HDTV set will have to have more than one input and use the TV to switch inputs. Denon has more modern AVR's that will switch HDTV signals. --Dan--Read full review
Nice receiver, my only issue is the remote was not included as advertised.
