Def Tech out done themselves with the Pro Monitor 800’s. The Pro Monitor 80’s were the 1st generation surrounds and were missing something. The 800’s have a 3-1/2” passive woofer on top to disperse the low frequencies of the speaker. The first time I heard them I was blown away and sold on them. Since my main fronts, front heights and center channels are Def Techs it was an easy decision to remain with all Def Techs up front. I bought the Pro Monitor 800’s to be my front wide speakers. I’ll tell you..., it was an excellent decision because my front Def Tech 7002’s are bi-polar and the 800’s push low frequencies out of the front and on top. Giving it a nice surround sound up high. The 800’s have a lot of body and with two SuperCube II subs they sound like a large speaker. In all my days in hi-end a/v I sold a lot of Pro Cinema 800’s but, I talked almost everyone out of buying the Pro Sub 800 Subwoofer and replacing it with a SuperCube III. The SuperCube subs really make the Pro Mon 800’s sound like a large floor standing speaker with body. If you didn’t see the speakers you wouldn’t even know they are satellites.Read full review

I would give this speaker five stars for several reasons. First of all this is a versatile speaker, as it can be mounted on the wall or set on a book shelf. It can be purchased as a home theatre system or purchased separately to be used as additional satellite or surround speakers. Don't let the size of this speaker fool you, because it has a huge clear crisp sound. It is actually a loud speaker. I purchased the last two ProMonitor 800's to create a 7.1 system. I am very pleased with my decision. After I got the speakers mounted, I used the Denon Audyssey microphone system to automatically adjust all the speakers. All I can say is "WOW" what a difference in the sound.
I had to downgrade and downsize my system from a full surround Paradigm Studio setup. While these aren't as musical or as clear as the Paradigms, they are a great speaker for the price point. I have these running as rears in my smaller surround setup with some PM 1000's for the front and a PC 1000 for the center. Overall it's a great well balanced system. I think with some more tweaks to the system and a longer break-in period, the sound will only get better. Bang for the buck, it's probably hard to beat these.

My experience with surround sound has been with B&O and Polk bookshelf speakers and the Polk SW1 subs. Both systems were a bit on the bright side in the highs and I like the "forward" sound. The Definitive 800s have been well reviewed and received by several magazines and web reviewers. I purchased two for my front speakers and added the ProCenter1000 (same speaker elements). These speakers plus the ProSub1000 (the ProSub800 has less impact) makes for an excellent sound stage. I found it necessary to experiment with the crossover points on my receiver and the subwoofer to avoid a "hole" in the spectrum around 100 Hz or the system getting a bit "boomy". Once all was set, I was pleased. I just recently purchased two more ProMonitor 800 speakers for my rear speakers for 5:1 surround. I'm looking forward to getting them installed. Again, these speakers can be "bright" or forward, but it does not take much adjustment in the tone controls (or EQ) to pull them back to your taste. One note on Definitive Technology as a company. They stand bye their products (when they are purchased from a licensed vendor) and were very helpful when I had problems with the amp in my sub assembly.Read full review
I currently only have 2 speakers hooked up to my Denon receiver. I have 4, but waiting till I move to hook up the others. I also purchased banana plugs for the speaker wire, I don't know how much a difference it makes but they sound better than Bose. I still need the center and a different sub, but with the 2.1 sound system that is set up, it sounds amazing. These are the perfect size for satellite speakers. I would recommend these speakers to anyone over Bose!! Plus you don't pay for the brand name!
