After seeing this story on 48HRS I became intrigued and had to read the book. I was convinced of Paul Cortez's innocence after seeing the show, and am more convinced after reading the book. I don't think he got a fair trial at all, and it seems he was railroaded. There just was not enough evidence to convict him. The book is very good but, however, I think it is biased, just as I think the NYPD was, in thinking Paul was the guilty one. The book at least considers others but the NYPD never did. The book could have come to other conclusions instead of the one it did.
I love to read these 48 Hours Mystery books after I have seen the TV presentation because they fill in the blanks you're left wondering about at the end of the show. This was a great one, passed on to my daughter to read. We have discussed the show, the book, and the outcome of the case many times and still have doubts as to the guilt or lack thereof of the purported killer. It's probably a good thing I was not on the jury! This is a good read and I highly recommend it as a good read.
My daughter loves these books! When she gets a new one she can't put it down. If you like the show and enjoy reading you will enjoy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I bought this because I seen the story on dateline. I thought the book was excellent. It was the kind of book that you still thouht about days after you finshed reading it.
