I am not a fan of reality television, as most of it seems to employ annoying, no-talent individuals whom usually have legal/drug/character difficulties...but I really like this show, and think that it deserves the cult following it has acquired. Yes, these men are human and have their problems - the late Captain Phil's youngest son, Jake, keeps making the gossip rags, for instance, with his legal troubles -, but the series doesn't rely on missteps, and that's what makes it different, in my eyes. These men work hard, flat out risking their lives every moment and every day, and the show proves this to the viewer: I review books, movies, etc. as a freelancer, and I'd like to think I can catch a set up/scripted crisis shot by now, and I've never caught one on DEADLIEST. Even the death of Captain Phil, which is dealt with in this season's episodes, is handled honestly and perfectly, and the viewer never feels as though he/she is being manipulated. The series is beautifully directed and produced, and the music that is included in many of the episodes (again, the songs bookending episodes having to do with Captain Phil/his sons/Phil's illness and death are especially touching without going over the edge into maudlin) are simply lovely. Whether your favorite skipper is Sig, Captain Phil or another, I think you'll get drawn into this show and like - and worry about - the individuals it showcases: I originally was asked to watch a couple of episodes and write a review - that was four seasons ago. I've never missed an episode since, and I think DEADLIEST will be remembered long after Snooki, the housewives and all the rest have disappeared from cultural memory - do yourselves a favor and watch a reality program that concentrates not on what a man does wrong, but what he does right.Read full review
The tradition contiues in another great season of Deadliest Catch. Once again the filming is remarkable and is just as exciting as the previos season. They keep it so exciting with everything that is going on that you hate to turn it off and wait to find out what happens next. I love this show and the way that it is produced and edited. Going from boat to boat is great. The narration with Mile Rowe is great!!!! What a fantastic job of filming. It almost seams like you are there sometimes if you really get involved with what is going on. After collecting and watching all 6 seasons so far I feel like I almost know these guys as the filming shows so much of each of there personalities. I can't wait for the next season. I must also mention the great loss of Captain Phil Harris. I miss his rough sturn voice and the knowledge that he had of the seas.Read full review
I am totally addicted to this show, and knowing before hand this was the last season with Capt. Phil Harris didn't make it easier to watch. Although it was refreshing to see it play out among the boats & crews. I had originally planned on buying this season from another place, until I realized it didn't come with the bonus disc of all the after the catch episodes, which is pretty much all the Phil stuff, & I definately wanted all that, since I'm sure to the millions of fans of this show, its not season 6, its the season Phil passed on. I highly recommend this to anyone. Its a refreshing change from most of the reality tv on nowadays. This show has heart & soul. And you'll find it will take a piece of yours with it.
This is about the crab fishing show in the Bering Sea .... this particular season has the last days of Captain Phil Harris and a documentary of his life and how he became a fisherman in the Bering Sea... excellent dvd.
