As far as a no frills router seems to work Okay. Using it as a wireless access point . I would like to leave a 5 star review. At this time I am not sure if the router is actually causing current issues or if it is other hardware or a configuration issue. will update review at a latter date.

The factory default for this router's transmitter power is set to "high". It shouldn't be. On that setting, it will overheat and freeze inside of an hour or two. Set to medium, you have to hit it pretty hard to make it freeze up. The D-Link firmware has decent functionality, and, on medium power, the router performs reasonably well. 802.11 range is limited, of course, but you'll find that's true of most N-capable routers. For $12 - which is what I paid for a used unit - it's not terrible. There is no open-source or third-party firmware available, so you're stuck with D-Link's factory firmware - probably permanently. (The folks at DD-WRT have had a donated unit since 2012, and apparently haven't done anything with it, and OpenWRT only kinda, sorta works with it. In terminal mode only. Via a hardware hack.) Make sure you change the freakin' password. Everyone and his little sister can hack it, otherwise ...Read full review

Great router for the price, i have a small house and it covers its range. For around $30 it is probably the best you could find. Wireless works great, connects to any wifi device just fine. I did not use any software, just dlinks default gateway of 192.168.0.1, went from there and adjusted to my specs. Unfortunately im giving this one away and getting a linksys because this model(idk about other dlinks), do not like voIP devices like the magicjack and such. Its security parameters are a bit to strict with the ports, even after statically configuring and opening ports its still fussy. I hear the linksys will still work fine in auto DHCP, sounds good to me! If you do not use an voIP device i highly recommend it though, its great otherwise for anything. Sucks im letting go, but then again it was not much to begin with!Read full review
the DIR 601 is easy to set up and use. no issues with wifi signal as is. However, I'm not one to stick with non removable antenna routers. I like upgrading my antenna if I need to. I added a RP-SMA jack to the router so I could connect my High gain removable antenna and have no issues at all. Great little router for the value and upgrading to 802.11N technology.

I couldn't initiate the security feature as the pin number which was provided didn't work. Otherwise, the device did work but it seemed to be possibly a refurbished unit and not new.
