The ZEN is made by Creative, the company that makes Sound Blaster sound cards. The best computer sound card ever made. So it is no surprise that the ZEN also has great performance and sound quality. I have 2GB, 4GB, 8GB, 32GB and now the 16GB model. I convert CDs and albums to Windows Media files at high quality size, and sink them to my ZEN. The sound is just as good as the CD. And most CDs I can get the CD cover so it is easy to view on the ZEN. But for size you can convert as MP3s, smaller file size but you loose some sound quality. And again most will retrieve CD cover, easy to view in Albums view on ZEN. It is not easy replacing the Lithium battery, it has 2 wire leads soldered on to the CPU board, but with practice you can get good at repairs to the ZEN. I use the Creative Wave HD speaker and Bose Noise Cancelling head phones and Bose ear corns with my ZENs, unbelievable sound quality. And the ZEN can give a signal to my Bose Noise Cancelling head phones that will blast your ears if you like it loud!!Read full review

I like the size of this player most of all. It can slip into my shirt pocket easily. It also work well in my car and motorcycle's audio system. It also has video playback capability. The only drawback is that it does not have built in speakers like they newer Creative models have. Battery life is good in audio mode but on video in sucks the life out of the battery quickly. All in all a good player for the money.
When I opened the box, the Zen seemed a little odd. It was oriented horizontally rather than vertically, the button layout was a bit unorthodox (barely intuitive), and the plastic case felt rather flimsy. I wasn't expecting too much, but still braced myself for a disappointment. Instead, I was knocked over by how much I love this player! The capacity is great, but the hardware is even better. The screen is sharp and the sound quality is outstanding - definitely on a par with an ipod and better than the Sansa View and Sansa e280 I'd used before. The startup was pretty zippy, the equalizer presets are useful, and the interface is a pleasure to look and work with. Even that "cheap" feel I'd pointed out before turned out to be a boon as I realized that the player was so light I'd forgotten I was wearing it at the gym. If I have a complaint with the Zen it's the menu system. It is very functional, but it takes a little too long to get used to, and can be a bit cumbersome. Particularly, the lack of a shortcut to the equalizer from "now playing," and a lack of a faster way to get to "now playing" than to go back to the main menu. I'm also not sure that I prefer buttons to a wheel, but I'm getting used to this fast. Overall, this is a great player. I've used the voice recorder, radio, music player, and pictures, and have yet to load a video. Everything works perfectly, and the sound quality is amazing. Even though it's a little bigger than I'm used to (think, 1/2" thick in a footprint a little smaller than a cigarette carton) it's lightweight enough for me not to mind, and the screen size that comes along with the extra footprint more than makes up for any inconvenience. Unless you've got your heart set on an iPod, this is a great buy.Read full review
This is my second Creative Zen unit. I have other brands, but prefer Creative Zen. It is small, easy to use and reliable.

I love the storage space. I love that it DOESN'T have a touch screen and has buttons that I can access when the mp3 player is in my pocket. It doesn't have as many features as some other mp3 players, like a camera and WiFi, but I'm not too concerned about it. I'm using it as a glorified CD player anyway, for work and sometimes home. I hook it up to a mini speaker or ear buds and I'm good. Battery life is excellent. It's lasted 3 8 hour shifts on and off, so probably 15 hours. You can't really complain about that. I only have to charge it like twice a week. The design is a bit weak in some ways, where there is a button that gives you the "Album of the Day." I don't want that. I am listening to what I am listening to for a reason, so every time I accidentally press the button, it goes to a different album than I was currently listening to. I don't press it often, but when I do, it just creates another thing I have to do. It's a good thing I only have top notch music on my player, or otherwise I might have thrown it out the window. :) Overall a great player, and I have very few complaints about it. It works and it plays music, and it is great when it comes to battery life. A great little product. I've only filled up about 1/4 of its capacity.Read full review
