While the 4 stroke cycle is easier to use than a 2 stroke cycle engine, the power range at the most usable RPM seems a little clunky. At the same level of throttle a 2 stroke cycle engine would provide a smooth rotation of the string, reel and a more uniform cut of the grass, the 4 stroke cycle seems to hesitate between cuts and produces a cut more like the teeth of a comb rather than a smooth and uniform cut. At less than $100.00 for a otherwise well built and versatile piece of equipment which could sell for much more, I still think it's a excellent purchase. However, I would recommend spending more on a bit more powerful machine if it intended purpose is for anything other than use in a residential sized yard.

Used today comments as follows..heavier than my old craftsman, starts with same effort, delay before cutting head starts spinning, not great for edging either sideways or straight up and down. That being said, good price for a 4 cycle trimmer. Does the job.

Being Craftsman product it works very well, ample power to cut heavy weed's with ease. A 4 stoke engine means no mixing gas and oil. I only use "marine"gas ,high octane and no alcohol to avoid carb problems

Best weed eater I've owned. Very easy to start and I love that the head only spins when you mash the gas...
