The Beatles, that lovable group of lads from Liverpool who shot to worldwide acclaim in the mid 60s, first exploded on the music scene in their home country of England. Besides releasing best-selling albums and singles, they also conquered the E.P. format, as well. E.P. are the initials for extended play, which is a record that has 4 songs instead of 2. While this type of record never really caught on in America, it was a success in Europe. The Beatles released 14 EPs in the UK from 1963 to 1967. This box set gathers up every one of them together. All of the original E.P. mixes of every song are included here, all in the same running order as the original vinyl releases. The titles featured in this set include "The Beatles' Hits", "Twist And Shout", "The Beatles (No. 1)", "All My Loving", "Extracts From The Film A Hard Day's Night", "Extracts From The Album A Hard Day's Night", "Beatles For Sale", :"Beatles For Sale (No. 2)", "The Beatles' Million Sellers", "Yesterday" and "Nowhere Man". Every one of these aforementioned E.P. titles feature songs that were also included as either singles or in albums of the time. However, perhaps the most unique E.P. that the group ever released during the mid-60s was called "Long Tall Sally", which contained 4 songs that were recorded specifically for the E.P. format only. These 4 songs prove that the boys know how to really rock. The title track is a cover of a Little Richard rocker; "Slow Down" was previously performed by Larry Williams; "Matchbox" is a Carl Perkins number; and "I Call Your Name" is a Beatles original. These 4 recordings would remain unavailable on an album in the UK until the "Rock 'N' Roll Music" collection in 1976. There is also a 2-disc version of "Magical Mystery Tour" which has both the mono and stereo mixes. The bonus disc is simply called "The Beatles", a 1981 E.P. that features previously unreleased stereo versions of 4 songs: "The Inner Light", the B-side to "Lady Madonna"; "Baby, You're A Rich Man", B-side to "All You Need Is Love", "She's A Woman", B-side to "I Feel Fine" and "This Boy", B-side to "I Want To Hold Your Hand". The version of "She's A Woman" included here has a "1-2-3-4" count-off intro that is unavailble anywhere else. This box set gives American fans that chance to see why the Beatles were such a success in the UK, and how that success covered the entire world.Read full review
I've always been a Beatles fan, and naturally when I saw this on eBay I decided to buy it. It's your basic Beatles mono tracks, I've listened to these songs hundred of times. It's nothing spectacular but it's The Beatles, what more can I say. It's just a nice addition to my collection.

I'm a "Beatle Collector" mainly albums of different sorts. The "Compact Disc" box set came about as a "sweet deal" bidding wise. I also have various Beatle Cd sets "unoppened", so this was a nice addition to go with the different "mono / remastered" sets of recent release and '90s "piano box" sets I do have. The only drawback for me personaly is, it opens the door to purchase "others", British releases, ect in "cd" area. But... that's not to be. I wish to spend my money in a different concentrated area. I'd love to AFFORD IT ALL!!!
Box set is out of print and this was unopend like New.
