This new Blu-ray disc offers all 12 episodes of the 1955 original syndicated-to-TV Republic's Atomic Age rocket powered flying hero, Commando Cody. Not known by many is the fact that this TV series was actually first released theatrically in 1953 (for strictly contractural reasons) in a different format: as a standard Republic 12-chapter weekly theatrical movie serial. When it was finally syndicated to television two years later, it was further altered and expanded, becoming the TV series it was originally planned to be all along. This series, and the two previous Republic Rocket Man movie serials, "King of the Rocket Men" (1949) and "Zombies of the Stratosphere" (1953) inspired comics artist legend Dave Stevens to create his masterpiece comic book series, "The Rocketeer." That series would later be bought by Disney and adapted into the 1991 cult feature film of the same name. What goes around comes (or I should say flies) around!Read full review

Considering the 60 year age of the film elements in this blu ray, the quality is outstanding. This collection of the 12 half hour episodes in this series is just as entertaining now as when first shown in the 1950's. It is not really a true serial in the true sense, however all the effects shots were taken from 3 Republic serials featuring the Rocket Man character. A worthwhile addition to any collector's library

Don’t like movies today or politics what are the viruses in movies from the 1940s early 1950s era greatest scape no drugs no violence great crime fighting drama I have the whole Commander Cody Siri‘s from the purple monster not sure which the last one is either Commander CodyOr zombies in the stratosphere but I have them all the only thing I’m looking for now is movie versions of the series the only one they made is rocket man on the moon was created into a movie version cereals are good when you went to a movie theatre and you watched a chunk and it stopped and you have to go back to the theatre next week to see the next chapter I’m watching it as a movie and yes it’s long but it’s worth it.

I have a few of the Republic Serial entries on DVD but I must say this blu-ray is truly enjoyable. The clarity and quality of the video portion and the sound far exceeds anything else I have regarding Republic! I wish all of their serials would be transferred in the blu-ray format!! Love them!!
