Absolutely eye opening. The author has has done his own research to back up every theory that he has. I just ordered another copy for my mother in law. Should make for some interesting conversation.. I highly recommend this book to everyone.

Chariots of the Gods is a great book for alternative thinkers. It brings to light questions most people would be too afraid to ask, yet does so in an objective way. Other books in this genre seem to railroad the reader into accepting the author's personal point of view, where as Von Daniken presents evidence to support his ideas as well as more traditionally accepted ideas, even when the evidence seems to contradict his points, allowing the reader to form their own opinions.
I was born in 1984, and at 26 years of age I have grown up in a world where space travel was never impossible, where the line between sci-fi and reality grew thinner and thinner with every passing year and where earlier astronaut theories were not a generally accepted aspect or view of our history as human beings, but it was not an unheard of concept in anyway. Still as much of a reality as space travel and research has been in the lives of my generation, we have also seen the researchers and programs run into major setbacks due to tragedy and politics and miss calculations. And in a time now where talk of furthering our reach into the vast openness of space is once again 'hot topic', I decided to purchase this book and sort of familiarize myself further with these theories and the 'father' of the early astronaut generation. I was not disappointed, and this book actually helped reignite the interest and wonder from my childhood when I used to read my comics and visit the NASA station near Houston, TX where I am from. It also entertained my interest in History, Archeology and Anthropology. And anyone with an interest in any of these subjects will find this old but still entirely relevant book simply thrilling. I also suggest it as a must read for anyone of my generation. It is exciting and sobering all at once, for when reading it (which I simply could not put it down) you are reintroduced, or rather formally introduced to these ideas that have filled our lives on, in some cases a daily basis, but also because it was written and published before the 1980's and 90's it filled with such hope and passion for a future that sadly has not entirely been realized, but with hope will now in this new era. I guess for me it was sort of like stepping out of a time machine for a stroll and returning to the present with a great understanding and clarity of our still so young culture. I realize this hasn't been the most ideal review ever written, but this is one of the most famous and in some cases infamous books ever published and is known throughout the entire world, honestly what could I offer up that hasn't been stated by more credited critics then myself? I have simply offered what I experienced as someone reading this book for the first time despite living in a world so very much influenced by the content inside its pages. And over all it was fun... though the three small letters hardly seem enough to truly describe it.Read full review
