This 2014 release was the fifth volume in the Cat in the Stacks series that is scheduled to add books 12 and 13 during 2020. I always recommend reading the books in order, as new continuing characters are introduced in nearly every volume. Readers of most cat mystery series quickly learn that the book titles rarely have anything to do with that novel's content. The Silence of the Library begins with several new characters being introduced before Charlie Harris' continuing gang of family and friends join the latest adventure. This book also differs in that lengthy excerpts from a decades-old girl detective mystery appear in italics as Charlie reads them. I first thought this was unnecessary filler, and was anxious to get back to the current story. But it turns out that a key to solving the present mystery lies within the 60-year old novel, so don't skip over the pages of italic storytelling.Read full review

I looove this library cat, Diesel. He and his owner get into some great jams. Easy to read with no violence or swearing. If you love books and cats this is the series you ought to try out. I passed them on to my mother and this one was her favorite.
