When it comes to point and shoot cameras I find there's little difference these days between quality in the better brands. What this camera DOES have that some others don't is the ability to get fabulous macro shots. The focal length is wonderful - you can practically touch the subject with the lens (not really, of course) when taking a shot. Since I'm photographing a lot of insect life that makes this camera a stand out amongst so many others. It has some drawbacks, but again, they are common to all these little point and shoot types. Sometimes it won't focus on the tiny object you want it to because the camera 'sees' another object as the target - the color representation can be poor under different types of light other than natural - little buttons make any fast changes to the shot setup difficult. Battery is proprietary and the charger is a bit of a pain to get the battery seated, but I'll put up with it for all the other pluses - it's a minor annoyance. Otherwise, great clarity, a very nice zoom, terrific macro and good battery life. I'm very pleased with its' performance and purchased a second one for a family member.Read full review

Looks like it may have been a store demo model. A lot of handling but not regular use. Just a guess. It had a white torn price tag type sticker on the glass lens. I was able to get it off with my finger nail but a glue residue was left which blurred the image in that area. I used some cleaner for my wife's eye glasses to clean it off carefully. That part was not shown in the picture and description. I installed my own battery, micro card, USB cable, wrist strap and case from my old 520 Canon and all works well now.

I am very happy with this Cannon Powershot Elph 520HS 10.1 MP digital camera. I only gave 4 out of 5 star ratings because I don't know how it compares to other cameras of it's type, but I am sure it does not compare as favorably to the very expensive high quality cameras. I have never owned or used a digital camera before, but decided I wanted my own for last Christmas. I like to take my own photos for items I want to sell on ebay, so my husband doesn't have to help me. This camera turned out to be heavier than I expected, and rather bulky once put in a nice hard leather case in my purse. I think Cannon should include a soft pouch with it. BUT, it works great, and takes very nice pictures. I was worried when I first took a picture, because the viewing window had a very grainy view and not able to see much detail, but after pressing the shutter a beautiful clear photo showed in the window. Since I am a total beginner, there are some photo problems I have had that I don't know how to fix other than adding more light to the room; low light grainy photos. I did take some shots of a 60+ year old photo through the glass of the frame, and still got some really nice clear results. It gets clear close details. Far off photos such as of mountains are pretty average looking. I haven't learned anything about special settings; I just turn it on and take photos on AUTO. It records in 1080p also, which I have not tried yet, so can't report how clear video might be. It accepts a 32gb micro SD card - NICE!Read full review
I loved the product. I did some research before buying directly from the manufacturer's website and compared with other similar products. I risked it had not possessed any Canon product. The machine is very compact and great features. Very easy to use it. The photos are amazing. Videos are recorded in high resolution and better, with optical zoom. There is a very extraordinary achievement reached her.
GREAT CAMERA!!! Optics are the best with incredible zoom capabilities. (Phone camera's can't do optical zoom). Easy to use for the novice but has full features for the pro. If your camera doesn't fit in your shirt pocket, you probably won't have your camera with you to take that "once in a lifetime" shot.
