This is not a new model and it isn't that easy to some of replace missing/lost original accessories such as the remote but it is still a fun camera to use. You still have to buy an adaptor ring in order to use filters which you need and then the hood no longer fits but it is worth a few dollars and perhaps a step-down or step-up ring to use filters you may already own. You can't argue with full HD but you can find plenty of fault for that imprecise function ring. It is difficult to keep from accidentally touching it when holding the camera. The separate video putton is a real plus as is the hot shoe if you want to add flash. And the lens cap while functional is irritating to attach to the strap - get that little string gadget which allows you to pinch and forget. Despite the weight from the 4 AA batteries, I like the heavier feel of this camera. Wrist straps may not be the best accessory with the weight so I will continue to use the neck strap. I didn't want to spend the extra dollar$ on the SX30 but if I had it to do again...and I will...I think my next replacement to my A650 which I still use for the higher mps and fits in my purse...will be an SX30 or... Canon is slow to impove as much as necessary with each upgrade but I am still happy enough using their cameras.Read full review
Fantastic features with horrible image quality, initially. Put a filter on it and stop it down 1 - 1 1/3 EV and most of the blown highlights disappears. A 52mm filter will "snap in" to the front of the SX1 lens or get a 58mm adapter that fits the flower hood ring. Using the fastest shutter speed possible helps with sharpness tremendously. Same goes for the flash, turn it down and pictures are great, otherwise it blows out highlights bad. My favorite camera as far as size, style, and features. Hopefully the next model will improve the IQ. Still, wouldn't trade it for any other brand and carry it more than my Canon DSLR. One lens does it all, and pretty fast at that. Do not buy if image quality is primary to you. The images are grainy when blown up full screen, some noise is inevitable beyond 100 ISO. For me, catching the moment and zoom are slightly higher on the list and this camera excels at both. As fast as my Canon Rebel with up to 4 frames per second as long as your finger will hold the button. Great Full HD video in .mov format (Quicktime).Read full review
Better than good but not excellent. The camera did lack the HDMI cables and even a lens cap strap. The lens cap itself could be better. The mode ring that changes the scenes is not too good. Mixed in with some of the functions it is easy to click on one or the other and not easy to concentrate on a specifed scene. The quality of the camera body itself could be better, does not have a sleek feel, bit cheaper than usual, like Nikon's better. Given alll that, still a good buy if you could get under $400 with some accessories thrown in. The zoom is great, wide to nice 20x optical. Zoom is quiet and so is the shutter, which is very fast. LCD vari-angle looks pretty good to me and much brighter than expected. Still like the (custom) timer functions in Canon and the auto rotates. Separatng the batteries from the memory card was a good move but the card door could be better. The AA batteries do make the camera heavier. Bought the camera primarily becasue of the CMOS and HDMI functions, but still haven't fully tested yet. The one touch movie function is nice. I do miss the variable AWB choices found in other models half this size. Rasing flash manually not always so great if you're expecting it to come on by itself when low lighting is detected. Of course prices have dropped even more now since I bought and which I thought was a pretty good deal.Read full review
