I've used a G2 for about 4 years. Takes great pictures. I recently bought one on eBay to replace one that I damaged. (Cheaper than repairing) It uses a CF card so the camera has about 50 pins in the bottom of the slot. I bent one accidentally and there is almost no way to straighten it. This wasn't a factor before I switched to WINDOWS 7. With WINDOWS XP I could just connect with a USB cable directly to the camera. Now I have to remove the CF card and use a card reader to down load the pictures. Hence my bending of a pin the second time I did it. The only other drawback is the AF is a little slow for moving targets. The pluses are: moveable, flippable screen; remote control; shoots RAW, JPEG, stitch, movie, lots of manual capability; 4 mega pixel more than enough for most work. I had enough accessories, filters, hood, spare battery, memory cards, charger, card reader that it made sense to replace it.Read full review
I had a Powershot G2 Black that I bought new in 2000 for archaeological photography. The camera then was groundbreaking for high-end hobby photography. I used it as recently as 2011, when it quit working after 11 years of hard labor. I bought a Fugi 8 MP camera to replace it, and the photos were nowhere as good as those my old Canon made. The G2--for the time it was produced--had an upper market Zeiss lens and photo chip that just couldn't be beaten, and is hard to beat now with any contemporary cameras, unless you're looking at something like a G12 or such. The photo processor on the G2 was groundbreaking for its trueness of color, ability to handle diagonals, and to this day still produces a photo that is more true to reality than my $400 Fugi is capable of doing. You can find much better zooms on the market today, but you can't find a camera in the price range of the G2 that has a hot shoe that will accept an external flash, or that has the lens adapter that will accept zoom lenses and such. More reason to invest in this little powerhouse from the turn of the millennium. I am replacing my old G2 with an Ebay-bought used G2. For hobby photographers, the megapixels aren't as important as the quality of the processor and lens... and the Canon G2 stacks up great against any mid-market cameras out there today. Just bought a used G2 for $45 on Ebay, and I know I'll have no regrets with this purchase; indeed, it's quite a steal!Read full review
these older cameras work perfectly for a Photobooth. They have AC Power which is nice for long extended use throughout an evening of madness of goofy pics of clients at a wedding reception!
The packaging was perfect and I also got a camera case, unexpected. I still haven't taken pictures as I need a couple pieces still.
Had one just like it that was stolen, still have accessiries for it and have been accustomed to using it. It was nice to be able to replace it at a reasonable cost!
