I like the 'smallenss' of the scanner, one inch thick and lightweight. It fits into my home office set-up cleanly. The item did not come with install disks, but I was able to download what I needed from Canon's website and with help from Canon's 800 phone number. The friendly, patient and very knowledgable CSR helped me install the software step-by-step. The only thing I don't like is that the product does not seem to have an editing program which means I must open another software to edit the photos I've scanned. Other than that, it's a great product and I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a scanner.
I purchased the scanner for strictly OCR use because I've had previous Canon scanners and liked their TWAIN interface. I purposely bought this scanner to use on an XP machine running an older copy of TextBridge Pro OCR software. For my application it works fine.

I bought this scanner because of it's size to use as portable with laptop. It is good for that use as it is small and uses usb cable for power as well. The only drawback was finding a driver to use with vista. The only way I found one was on www.canon.com/ca (canada). Once I installed the driver and software from Canada, it works well but won't let me save files as pdf's, so have to save as Jpeg or tif and then convert to pdf to email. Still though works well enough for the space saving size.
Excellent product. Needed a flatbed scanner to copy pictures and download into computer programs. Easy to install product came with all soft ware and step by step instructions. Automatically boots up with computer and downloading is easily accomplished with software included with product.
I'd recommend this item for anyone who has a lower rated operating system. the machine works on windows 2000 or lower. Canson is also a generous company that allows many bargains for trading and upgrading.
