This group was lauded as America's answer to Led Zeppelin, and If you like your Rock and Roll hard and heavy, try an earfull of this compilation! Jim McCarty, Rusty Day, Tim Bogert, and Carmine Appice rock with the best of them! From the summer of 1970, until 1972, the group scorched out four albums of hard rock, "Cactus"-1970, "One Way...Or Another"-1971, "Restrictions"-1971, and "'Ot 'N' Sweaty"-1972. This compilation serves as a great way to aquiaint yourself with their sound, including two previously6 unreleased songs; "Rumblin' Man" and a live version of "Parchman Farm". Favorite tracks: 01. Cactus was one of the hard touring groups that never really got much radio airtime. This collection of their music on Rhino records is a decent representation. They had a basic bluesy hard rock style similar to Led Zeppelin but a somewhat less polished approach to it. The lead singer was a bit rough around the edges but fit in well with their heavy and fast sound. If you liked Grand Funk, Zeppelin, or even Cream, the Yardbirds, or the Jeff Beck group, then this is more than something to try out. It's not something you're going to hear on a classic rock station, although it deserves at least some recognition. Rhino records is always good with the liner notes too.
Great collection of a great rockin' band! Cactus never got the attention they deserved and this is proof! You can't listen to this without wondering why they aren't, or weren't, more well known. This is a nice addition to any rocker's collection. It's also nice to know that Cactus has re-grouped and is puttin' new music out once again.....look for their new CD!
A great band saw them twice. One of the best true boogie bands ever. A band that played they left nothing to be desired .If you couldnt get into this band. You should not have gone there.
