The old photos alone are worth the price of the book, and they make up most of the book. Author Scot Dahm assembled a fascinating and generous supply of unique and unseen historic photos that provide a clear view into early 1900s outdoor sports and outdoor lifestyle. Seeing the trappers cabins, the firearms, the way the skins were stretched etc are interesting and useful for understanding how we got here today. Wild fur was a big deal back then, and catching an abundance of it, and handling it properly, paid big money when it was brought out of the big woods to urban markets. The text is pretty basic, with some words missing here and there. A kind of flat writing style indicates a first time author unused to writing creatively. Great writing isn't necessary here. Fortunately, Scot has all those amazing photos and does a good job researching and describing them. This book is for those history buffs like me who really want to see the old times. I enjoyed it and also bought it as a gift. I recommend it.Read full review

I've purchase this book twice,I noticed a huge difference between first and second printings, that being size ! The second printing is about eighty five pages smaller in total size. Most of those missing pages are historic photographs dealing with the life and times of Richard Wood. This issue along with the fact the purchase price is the very same! The written content seems about the same, clearly very interesting, dealing with this Gentlemen and Adirondack wilderness history of the time!
