Blood+ is a GREAT series! This review is not a reflection on the content of the series, simply a warning! If you already know that you like the series, DON'T BUY THIS. It is IMPOSSIBLE to collect the entire first or second seasons on single discs! They stopped releasing single disc releases at volume 4, the 5th volume would've ended the first series. If you're wanting to test the series to see if you'll like it, I'd recommend finding a legal streaming site to watch it on. And, if you like it, buy the box sets!! The box sets are the ONLY way to legally own all of Blood+! Just a warning from a big fan of the series!
Cartoons aren't just for kids anymore. Adults enjoy them every bit as much, especially quality adult oriented cartoons like Blood +. I found this gem on Adult Swim on Cartoon Network and have enjoyed each episode I've watched. I missed several of the earlier ones, which is why I bought Vol 1. It's refreshing to find a cartoon that is both visually pleasing, has a great story, and has characters that you care about. It doesn't come across as silly, which some Japanese cartoons do to American audiences, but it is violent with some themes a few might find disturbing. It's not for kids. Another good Adult Swim cartoon that is worth your time is Trinity Blood.
After watching the series back in 2007, I waited for the day that they would release the DVDs. Summary: The show is about an amnesiac girl named Saya living in Okinawa with her adopted family. Saya's world is turned upside down after she faces a monster-like creature called a Chiropteran which she finds out that she is the only one who can kill them because of her blood. In order to protect her family, Saya decides to fight for the Red Shield (an organization created to fight Chiropertans) but this tale of monster-slaying goes a lot farther than she ever imagines. DVD: The DVD offers both the original Japanese audio and the English dub. The dub is actually is pretty good so I don't mind watching it. However, the DVD has dubtitles instead of subtitles (which I kind of wonder why since Sony took an awfully long time to release this). Overall, the DVD gets a 4/5 because of the somewhat hastily put together DVD but the show is definitely worth checking out.Read full review
