Believe it or not, this ("Blame the Vain") CD was my introduction to Dwight Yoakam's music in 2006. It's a major reason why I am now a huge fan of all his music back going back to 1984. Anyway, this CD features Dwight's original material, and I am amazed by the quality of not just of his powerful voice, but of the thought behind his lyrics and the overall great quality of the sound. From slower, honky tonk style songs to country rockers and lovely ballads, this CD shows that Dwight can write and sing any style. I love this entire CD, but my favorite songs are "Intentional Heartache," "I'll Pretend," "Three Good Reasons" and especially the arresting "Watch Out." He really tears those songs up and they're all "real" country!! I also love the ballad "When I First Came Here," because it Dwight sings it with such conviction and a commanding presence. Love-lorn songs never sounded so fantastic! I wanted this particular CD because it was autographed by The Man himself, so it made me very happy to win. What a treasure!!Read full review
I love the fact this guy just continues to improve his sound over the years. There is no reason to reinvent himself as the years go passing by just to remain popular and in the public eye. So what if he's not singing songs about picking the kids up from WalMart or touring with Kenny Chesney. With Dwight, it's about the music, not popularity. I bought it along with Dwight Sings Buck to round out my library of Dwight Yoakam. With the exception of the box set, I have his entire catalog. I can't wait to hear what he comes up with next. If I had to say something negative it would be the manufacturers packaging. I'm not a big fan of Digipaks. They don't seem to be as durable over time and the art/cover work is so much more susceptable to being damaged than a conventional jewel case.
Typical Dwight. Good stuff. Best is played on random. Tried it both ways several times. Random on this cd is best.

The album is his best yet. The song, lyrics, and video to "Intentional Heartache" the epitome of humor. This man has so much talent its really not fair to the rest of us (grin). I hope he continues to produce his own albums and videos. The Blame the Vain Tour he is doing are shows that shouldn't be missed. Its like going to the best party you have ever been to. He relates to his audience and they all seem to enjoy the party too. I bought an autographed copy at his show. Thank you Dwight.
