Ok, I've been a blackberry user since the very first unit that looked like a pager and was pin to pin only. The only other phones I've owned since then is an IPhone 3GS for about a week (couldn't handle the touch only so gave it to my wife) and some samsung sliders that were'nt exactly smart phones. My phone before this unit was the Torch 9800. Let me start by saying WHAT AN IMPROVMENT...the internet is about double the speed, as a matter of fact, everything is double the speed. Boot up time (when inserting the battery) takes a bit over half the time the old Torch used to. It connects to my Playbook via Bridge in less than 2 seconds, and now that the internet is much faster my Plabook isn't as useless as it used to be. The reason I give this unit an overall rating of GOOD vs Excellent is that when compared to phones such as the iPhone 4, and especially the Samsung Glalaxy S2, there is much to be desired. This closes the gap between Blackberry and the likes of Samsung and Apple as it is a huge improvment over the last Torch, BUT there are still some things they could have done better. Hopefully QNX will fix this. That said, I am very happy that I upgraded to the 9810, for those choosing between the 9800 and the 9810 I would say go for the 9810 for sure. I can't handle phones that are touch screen only, and am kinda anti Apple, so this is a nice breath of fresh air.Read full review
I purchased a white BlackBerry Torch 9810 shortly after it debuted. It's been months and it's doing great! Pros: Appealing design, great camera and video recorder, good apps available, option between touch screen and buttons, faster internet browsing speed, and good social networking, overall very versatile cell phone Cons: Fragile phone, freezes up occasionally, small keyboard buttons
Likes about BB Torch 9810: instant email notification, easy to use keyboard, facebook chat, LED notifications (there are apps that allow you change the color for each person's text or calls), smooth touchscreen, nice trackball, sync music over Wifi, much more easy to manage music and pictures compare to iphone, able to use microSD cards for more memory Dislikes: stone age built-in alarm app, unlock button very easily hit accidentally (which can be fix with slide to unlock apps), apps come in high prices compare to apple store, ugly UI for most app built-in or 3rd party, have to have a data plan to setup email notification, ugly 8 bits looking games, some settings are not very user-friendly Bottom line, my experience after 2 months using Torch 9810: call quality is good, texting is wonderful, web browsing is sometimes frustrating and not comparable to iphone, speaker is nokia-loud and phone design is very elegantRead full review
I love the Torch 9810, my first Torch was the 9800. The 7 operating system of the 9810 is an improvement. I have the 9810 tethered to my BlackBerry Playbook and they work fine. The size of the Torch is perfect for me. I use a belt holster for it but like just dropping it in my shirt pocket, this works great with the Playbook. I love the key board, I use it for email and texting. This phone is very intuitive and easy to use!
This phone is generally great. Personally, I wished that it was accessible to more apps but that only depends on the user. As far as how it functions, this phone has had to be replaced twice because of error messages that showed upon starting up the phone which prevented it from being usable whatsoever. The errors were related to hardware faults that could not be fixed by simply restarting. Apparently, some of these phones have these defects and can only be fixed by being replaced. Usually, depending on your carrier, replacement units run from $199-$400. [[This is the main reason from my low rating]]. Also, this phone likes to freeze quite a lot. This requires the user to remove the battery for 10 seconds and replacing it again. Another thing is when the battery is drained, it's insanely difficult to recharge.Read full review
