I was disappointed in this dvd from the standpoint of Sittiing Bull's biography. It's basically an overview of Lakota history over the span of a few decades. Mind you, there's nothing wrong with Lakota history; but Sitting Bull deserves more than this. It introduces few new facts about this great man. It does give us a glimpse into the way Americans viewed Indians, and Sitting Bull in particular. Their opinions were, of course, very unflattering. This man was fearless, ferocious, fierce in his determination to keep his people free and unsubjected to the whites. He was great. He was intractable. He had no use for whites. He was inflexible. He was defiant. He was unsubmissive, and he was a henpecked husband. (They don't tell you that here, though.) Above all, he was a human being. You don't learn that at one time he took a second wife, and she quarreled so ceaselessly with his first wife, it drove him crazy. You don't learn here that as a child, when given a piece of meat to eat, he would examine it very carefully before deciding if he would eat it, but once he did, he would not give it up. There is a lot more information out there about Sitting Bull. This "biography" really cut corners in digging up a wealth of facts which would fill in the details about the Hunkpapa chief. If you just want a bit of general Sioux history, then you'll be satisfied with this production.Read full review
Too much Lakota history given that this is supposed to be exclusively about Sitting Bull, Tȟatȟáŋka Íyotake. And there's a contradictory statement by the host at the end of the show. For the little money I paid for this I'll keep it. However, it would be the last video I'd show or offer to anyone who is learning history of Sitting Bull or the Lakota, Sioux, Indigenous people of North America. Would I recommend it? No. I am building a collection of videos as I teach my children the correct, balanced history of this country we call the U.S. And based upon the others that I have, this falls short & therefore is not recommended unless you simply want to supplement your collection. Contact me if you'd like my recommendations.
Good A and E tape. Good A and E tape. Good A and E tape. Good A and E tape. Good A and E tape. Good A and E tape. Thats 100 now.
Bought this DVD for my mother for her birthday, she loved it.I have bought several differant ones and given to her and shes been very happy with them.
Informative, with more information about Lakota history than I expected. Kept my attention and helped me to think about the massacre of the native populations and what power and strength the Lakota people displayed.
