This cookbook is the exact same as my mother's. Needless to say, this cookbook was Mom's go to cookbook and her cooking bible so many years ago. My nephew wanted Mom-Mom's recipes. I have her cookbook, which has been used, abused, and has no hard cover on the front. Bought this book for him. Was elated to see the superb condition it was in, which was exactly as described...better than like new! Awesome value. I spent a lot of time trying to find this special limited edition at an affordable price and none of the books I saw even compared to this purchase. My nephew and his girlfriend were thrilled to be given this cookbook. Thank you so much.

I've had this cookbook for years. It has always been a "go to" for my young son and I because of the colorful pictures, basic reference materials, and easy access. I also appreciate the icons denoting "Easy" and the generous mix of recipe types. Recently, my very old copy of this book (already battle worn and stained)was totaled in a remodeling mishap (my husband spilled paint all over it). I knew I had to replace it ASAP. I worried a little about having a new book. Maybe it wouldn't be quite as user-friendly or have all the variety I wanted. But this edition is everything I remember and more. I highly recommend it.
I have trouble finding a cookbook better than this one. I have hundreds in my collection and The Better Homes and Gardens New Cook Book is the one I reach for first and most often. It is comprehensive and the pictures are wonderful. It's perfect for a new cook (like my daughter) or an experienced cook like myself. It has helpful hints and uses ingredients that we can easily find in our fridge or pantry or on the shelves. The recipes are tried and true, like for apple pie or pot roast. Those things are a "must" for any cook who lives in an American kitchen. I highly recommend this cookbook for gift giving, or as your primary cookbook that will be used over and over with stains on each page. You won't need anything else.
This book helped me learn American cooking and beginner's baking. The recipes work as is, but I sometimes like to add a little zing or twist to the food. I tend to tweak the ingredients, but the basic recipes are good. I bought this copy for my sister, and believe she will meet with as much success as I have. The tabbed sections are easy to go through, and the tab titles are easy to understand. The pages have withstood handling and my moving the open book from counter to counter as I cook. The tips that start each section are helpful and have sent me on some hours of blissful research as I dig deeper into the published tip. I like the photos (and wish there were more), however the book does break down some of the cooking concepts using the photos, making pie pastry for one. I have since acquired a cabinetful of cookbooks, but I keep going back to this one.Read full review
IN 43 years of marriage I have had three different copies of this book. It is BY FAR the best basic cookbook in America. It shows you everything from how to measure, to where cuts of meat come from on the animal. The recipes don't require exotic ingredients and a careful eye is kept on the nutritional value of the recipes. It stays current by adding sections like "Crock Pot Cooking" and "20 Minute Meals" for those of us who work outside the home. I believe in it so much, I bought my daughter a copy when she married and am now giving my granddaughter a copy to use as a "textbook" as she learns to cook in home-school.
