I bought this book because I needed it for a yoga certification class, but it ended up containing much more than I had anticipated. Keep in mind, I'm no yogi, so this info is probably best for beginners. The thing that I felt from beginning to end was the personal nature of the book. Although it's an informational text, it's apparent that Beth Shaw poured herself into this and loves this lifestyle and exercise. The book demonstrates poses, what muscle groups they work/stretch and how to modify for safety. It teaches how to make these poses flow together for an individual workout or class setting. It describes breathing techniques, workouts for specific athletes, nutrition (she loves the vegetarian lifestyle, but no guilt for us carnivores) and meditation. This book is very user friendly, easy to understand, and perfect for the the person excited about learning and participating in yoga. This will be a book I keep and use as a reference often.Read full review
This book has tons of illustrations and is used for a Nationally Accredited Yoga program to certify teachers. It has tons of pictures, simple, yet succinct explanations and routines. This is the book teachers use to study for their exam.
This book is a good "basic" introduction to correct yoga techniques and postures. If you've taken yoga classes for a decent length of time, there will not be much in this text that is new to you.
